alright well I dropped it off at the nissan dealership today and let them look at it, within an hour they called me back and told me that my aiv valve is BAD, and it's making my maf bad as well. So they are installing my aiv valve and i'm gettting a new maf today as well and it should be done Wednesday, I'll let you know what happens

How does a bad AIV valve CAUSE a BAD MAF??????Did I missunderstand you and they were both bad indipendantly or what?

It seams like you said that the AIV valve went bad and that caused the MAF to go bad. Please explain.

sometimes the intake manifold gaskets will crack and cause a leak. this will cause a lean condition because the air is metered. that is what I thought of when you said you heard the hissing. you can listen with one end of a piece of hose in your ear and the other where you think the leak is. if you think you found it test it by spraying brake parts cleaner on that spot. if the motor reves slightly then you found the leak.

yea they told me that the aiv valve was causing the maf to go bad.

but yea I got my car back today and it runs WAYY better =). I picked it up from nissan today after they changed the AIV valve, and I also had to replace the MAF. It's good to actually see it idle now and actually able to drive on the road fine. BUT there is still something wrong. It will not let me go past 4300 rpms. It runs smooth until I get to that last gear or I floor it. It won't go past 70mph either. It just keeps bouncing around 4100 - 4300 like that's rev limiter..lol. But when it isn't in gear I can rev it all the way to redline, I don't understand.

I am going to take it back to nissan service tomorrow and tell them that it is still acting funny b/c they did guarantee that they would fix it.

Ok can anybody explain to me how a bad aiv can cause the MAF to fail? I dont see how one can cause the other.

it runs now but it still doesnt run right. It still misses and cuts out.
