my 240sx ford 302 engine changes (lots of pics)

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

spark retard is to 0° . i bump to 5° for a less aggressive limiter.

because its cold at night, i tune for cold starts and it works just fine. i take car tomorrow for a little drive and make some datalogs for cruise tuning.

car is almost ready to hit drag track.

i test my car against a friend who runs a mustang 347 supercharged @6 psi.

my car was running with an afr of 10.1 (its the richest it can read so maybe more rich.)

running @7psi.

had problems with fuel movement into the tank gas. im search for a non expensive solution because i can solve this with a filling half of a tank but when level is 1/4 of tank it will run afr lean.

I recommend a surge tank. Here is a 4 liter unit that comes with the fittings for $76.

i swap fuel pumps. i remove external fuel pump because it wasnt installed very well. i dont like idea of drilling holes in tank. i put a 320lph inside tank . i will make some more test before doing other solutions. i dont waste money here because i sell external pump and buy the intank pump with same money.

i wasnt able to test things because i was at surgery last month and need resting 2 more weeks before jumping into the car.

thankyou.

overheating problem was solved with an aftermarket s13 radiator. its a cheap 2 row 2in width .

before radiator swap, temperature was at 210°f with a 2 speed taurus fan. car almost run with engine off and fan on !!!

at highway temperature was at 210° to 215°.

with the new aftermarket full aluminum radiator, temperature stays at 179-185°f in city and same temperature in highway. i test in highway at 85mph and some 4th gear pulls with 8psi of boost without problems.

i use this radiator with an altima dual fans wired at high speed..

fuel surge was solved with intank pump. i have a little of work so no time to road tune car fro 5000rpm to 6000 rpm.

i have a new problem here. car is used right now 4 times per week to work and is doing a 8.7 mpg. its almost an electric car !!!!!

i will remove aftermarket cam an put a oem mustng cam for a better gas mileage. car was running very good without that ford racing cam.

car did 13.00 with street tires and stock cam and car drove less noisy.

i cant make turboheader because there is no room for exhaust. i will kept log manifolds. i will sand and paint when turbo upgrade is finished.

because there is no dyno here, i use virtualdyno to generate dyno graph and helps to tune spark map.

old setup generated 305 whp at 26° of ignition timming and 286whp at 24° @7 psi of boost.
Image
**********************
**********************

this is gt45 graph.

6.5 psi of boost & 22° ignition advance from 3000-6000 rpm.

Image

so now, i can add ignition timming and bump up that numbers. i cant did 6000 rpms because i hit overboost protection .

afrs are now more steady. i need to test again.

this week i did a cam swap. i put a stock HO cam instead of f303 cam.

Image

this stock cam drives great. car feels very good with stock HO cam. hp and tq are lower but i can give more boost.

this is the most in depth swap ever!

drag day.

car didnt run great. it has boost and traction issues.

1st gear - no boost.
2nd gear - 3 to 4 psi.
3rd gear - 3 to 4 psi.
4th gear - 4psi to 5500 rpm. 7psi to 6100 rpm.

car was set to run 7psi all time. after first race, i notice a change in engine sound. i think exhaust manifold gaskets were damaged.

12.60 best time.

a few years ago car has a electrical issue so car stops running randomly while driving. i took apart all wiring and turbo parts.

look at exhaust manifolds. xD
Image

Image

i find some ford cougar manifolds so i think it will be good as a rust replacement.

start doing ls coils swap so no more distribuitor.
Image

relay and fuse box for MEGASQUIRT and other stuffs.
Image

another relay/fuse box to control not related EFI stuffs(lights, cluster, windows...)
Image

right now, i have all stuffs for s13.4 front conversion but i didnt notice you need a front conversion fenders and not oem s14 fenders. i will not do conversion till end of year so i will buy s13 to s14 fender conversion and attach items.

Image

rfid start button
Image

Image

wiring inside is all new but right now isnt finished. i will not put tubing hose yet because i always forgot something . once its all good, i will take apart dashboard and start doing tubing hose.
Image
Image

using dodge stratus dual fans. they fit great and have good speed.
Image
Image

dont look at tie straps. will be replaced by an aluminum rectangle.
Image

exhaust manifold right side + v-band. i cut runner 1 and mod to fit properly and weld v-band in good out angle.
Image

3 in downpipe. very tight fit. not running mod in steering rack.
Image
Image

dual wastegate setup . main green wastegate is set at 10 psi. secondary red wastegate is set at 7 psi. it will act as quick spool valve. all exhaust flow will be sent to one inlet in twin scroll turbine. once boost reach 7 psi, red wastegate will open flow so second inlet of twinscroll turbine will be used.

this is done to spool turbo faster and make torque at low rpm and get good flow at high engine rpm.

Image
Image
Image

i hope this time finish this car. im glad i can drive this car again.

i have this nissan for work , its a ka24de+gt35 @14 psi . it made 342whp. its in good shape. i buy almost 4 years ago. this car was done quickly. almost 2 years with turbo and no issues.
Image
Image

it drives fine but its not same. its heavy, feels heavy.

for testing, i have a little shop. i was tuning nissan obd1 cars since 2011 but dyno is working since march 2017.
Image

i have some dyno graph (virtual) to compare to currently setup.

not running wideband so take all plugs and take a look before installing wideband.

this is what i get.
Image

so i make a little video to my friends about how to clean spark plugs.

now i get a good exhaust sound. right now its only working on primary wastegate. (secondary wastegate is closed so no flow to 2nd input of twin scroll turbine.)

Sounds loud because its inside garage.

then i go to my shop using a primary wastegate set with "2 psi spring" and get "3 psi".

didnt install methanol injection kit yet
Image
Image

and because i can rise boost pressure because spring was not hard, its open because exhaust manifold pressure.

3 psi. runs. tune from 2014 start at 316 whp and ended at 3292.9 whp with fine tune.
Image

i will swap to 8 psi spring to rise numbers. i learn its not good use a low rate spring and rise boost using boost controller. wastegate will open earlier even if you arent at your spring boost pressure. it will cause low boost response.

try to install methanol tank. didnt fit properly. i have 1 gallón tank too but i want to install all kit in engine bay so i will get 1/2 gallón tank.

if i put to battery side, it will be above fuel pump case.
Image

to the other side it will not fit good because pump need to be under tank and want to have spare tire. so bigger is not always better.
Image

because finally get all thing to do s13.4 , i will leave horsepower tune and get this done.

i do mistake. first time i get things to do s13.4 , i buy s14 kouki front fenders and they are not good to s13.4
. you need s14 conversion fenders to s13. my mistake.

this is what you need:
Image

they are conversion fenders and made of fiberglass. i have 2 oem spare s14 kouki fenders but they are very rare and expensive around here so i will not touch. my s14 was crash last year by a hit and run driver and no one see this. i have a hard time trying to find a good fender . finally i buy one brand new for a good price.

yesterday test fitment of parts.
Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

this is all i get now. i have some rear overfenders too. 30mm. :slap:
