M5board, people talk in full sentences, even the ones who don't speak english as a primary language. They are mature, don't s***, and don't flame people much at all, let alone ever. It's the way forums are supposed to be. They don't care if your wheels aren't Work, BBS, etc, as long as they look good. No hate for "knock-offs" as long as the stuff works as advertised.

Wanna hear something crazy? A 24+ part OEM suspension arm set... is like $600. $600?!?!?!? yes. no rubber, all balljoint pivots. hot damn. You pay a lot monthly for the car, but honestly, mods are cheaper. (boost aside, but you do make 550+whp for $8k..)

All said and done tho, I miss my S13's simplicity and the fact that I know these cars inside out. The M5 is a WHOLE 'nother animal, but a MUCH better/fun daily :werd:

On a more serious note: This build looks flipping awesome! I love fabrication rich build threads. :dblthumb:

Chill it down guys. MGE no need to call people idiots... you too have said some pretty dumb stuff here. And RWD, don't be hating on the BMW. BMWs are solid cars with a life time of innovation and performance behind them. They don't have the 500,000 and 1 million kilometer clubs for no reason at all.

Sorry about the no updates for a while. I've been working 6/12's and really haven't done much else as of the last couple months.

This Summer it will pick back up and hopefully be functional.. :)

As far as the strut tower swap goes... well it only made sense to me. I didn't want some sort of suspension mix between the two like the tappered balljiont chunk that some bol into their strut. I really wanted to have it where any R32 GTR part would just bolt right in. There! :)

Thanks for the compliments by the way.

I know. I know... lol.

It's all done but the wiring now really. I mean it'll still need paint and some interior work and all the cool little fidly bits to make it 'sharp', but it'll get there.

Between work and my main project now, the GTR, I have been horribly neglectful to this project. But don't worry everyone... this project isn't sitting under an old shade tree covered in dead leaves and rusting away! It's safe and sound inside an awesome shop and in the middle of AZ. It's all safe and will be getting much more attention very soon! :)

As bad as I feel about putting this project on the back burner for so long, it has freed up a lot of time. I've since taken my R32 GTR and won 1st place in our UMS Time Attack Series in TA-C (unlimited class) last year, and having gotten 1st place this year in both our events so far, I'm solidly in 1st place again. :)
http://www.umstuningtimeattackseries.com/results.html

I also got some exciting news last week that my GTR and I have been invited to participate in the Modified Magazine Tuner Shootout at Firebird Speedway on March 31st at our NAZA AZ night event! :)
http://forums.nasaaz.com/showthread.php?t=4904
Look for the August issue covering the story sometime in July! Sweet! http://www.modified.com/news/modp-1202- ... index.html

As busy as I've been... I do promise to keep moving forward on the AWD S13. It's getting so close!

By the way, anyone have an extra pull to push conversion laying around for cheap? :)

Actually found a little time between other things to get some more work done on it. Should have the engine and tranny back in it, crossmember bolted up and maybe a few other little things done this Sunday. Well that's what I'm planning anyway.

The next thing will be to get the suspension back on and get her rolling. Then it will be off to my buddy's shop for wiring work.

I'll get some of the past pics off my camera and some new ones taken too, posted up this next week. Promise.

Right. Sooo, here's some pics from a long while back showing how easy it was to put the entire rear subframe from the R32 GTR into the 240. Like I've said above, the body bolting was positioned exactly the same, but were a little shorter. This wasn't a bad thing though as it allowed me to trim a little dead space collar from the subframe gromet and tucked the whole unit just a bit further up into the car. I forget just how much I trimmed, but it was in the ballpark of a 1/2". Here's what it looks like.

It isn't together for the final time by far. Just together to get her rolling, get the wiring done, and mechanically complete... possibly legal and get a few miles on it before I worry about the prettys. The surface rust on the subframe and little bits is unsightly, but look past it and see the new metal beneth. :)

See... snug as a bug.

Then there's these NISMO bits which I took from my GTR since it's got Tein Supers on it.

And with a couple of the factory 16" GTR wheels. Whoa for wideness already! :)

Well they kinda explain themselves. If ya have questions just ask.

For right now the factory stuff will work for getting the car complete and functionable. Once eveything thing is done and the build proves to be a success, I will completely blow it all apart again into all the pieces and go back with little upgrades like new poly bushings, mounts, CV and steering rack boots, ball joints, etc... Along with paint and interior.

I really need to get it rolling and out of my buddy's way for now though, so my focus is getting the hard parts where they need to be, and then on to another friend for the wiring. I'll do upgrades and pretty stuff after the thing is running and I get it legal and back into the system.

Here's a few front end pics to start with.

Already covered is the grafting of the strut towers using the jig which also located the front subframe and mounts.

These pics show the engine and trans in and mounted, suspension mounted, less brake lines hooked up and other little things still left to consider. There is plenty of clearance for the exhaust to pass next to steering rack, but I will need to slightly modify/redirect the banjo fitting line which is about a 1/4" from the steering shaft. Other than that it's looking really great to me. :)

Here's a pic of how things look accross the fender top plain.

A couple underside pics. Will put the front drive axles in at a later point when they're needed. They fit without issue and with the suspension stroked have plenty of framerail clearance though.

Here's a few of the car from a few feet away to get a bigger picture. Love how it's all coming out. Keep in mind it'll eventually have adjustable suspension links. Probably the same Driftworks links I used for the GTR.
