mx6 v6 are slow!!!

my buddy wrecked his 95 camaro v6, so he went out and bought a 93 mazda mx6 v6 with about 130 k miles on it. I think they're really ugly...but that doesnt matter...What matters is that we raced a few days ago and i burned him. We only raced up to about 80 mph but by then i was about 4 car lenghts in front of him and still pulling. I thought it was gonna be a close race since our cars have similar hp numbers...I think the v6 mx6s have about 165 hp, right? oh...i got a 91 s13 with cai and exhaust. Anyway, i just wanted to share my story and see what other people have to say...

Probably the (correct me if I'm wrong) weight difference and front-wheel-drive that hurt the MX6.

Dont hate the MX6, I think it's another beautiful japanese car that people haven't seen the true potential of. It doesn't look that bad either. I'm sure if it was properly tuned and given the custom body work that it needs, it definately can run with the better FWD's out there, but in the end, it will never match up to the 240sx in my opinion.

First off, FWD transmissions tend to be more efficient than RWD transmissions. It sounds to me like the MX-6 was an auto if you tromped it that bad. Also, even with our RWD cars, a properly launched MX-6 will hang with you out of the whole. They have 225/50/16s IIRC. My buddy has a PGT, and it isn't anything to be messed with by my 240. I/H/E put him at 15.1 in the quarter, which isn't too shabby for a pretty much stock V6 FWD. There's no reason to hate on them, just like goshoryuken said. They are a very capable car. Out of the box, they will handle just as well as a 240, if not better. Again, I love 240s, but I hate it when people hate on cars that have no reason to be hated on other than the fact that they don't know anything about them, so they assume they are ****.

bah...they suck. They are probes...just like the mazda truck is a ranger. Sometimes the truth just hurts.

No, the Probe has a Mazda engine in it, and they are based on SIMILAR platforms, but they are NOT the same car. It is a completely different body, interior, suspension, and everything beyond engine and drivelines.

NO FREAKIN' WAY!!! The 93 and newer Mazda trucks are Rangers... but smart consumers like myself bought Mazda trucks when they were made by Mazda... and shared NOTHING in common with the Ranger. My 90 Mazda B2600i 4X4 is completely Mazda and Mitsubishi!!!!

I kinda like the mx-6. They do have potenial but i have never seen it. I hope it isn't in the JSpec motor, a kid I graduated with moved back home and he installed one in his probe and added a intake, headers, exhaust and ignition. We raced exactly a 1/4 mile and I killed him. At the time I didn't have all the mods I do now. But still I think with the rite person doing the work they woulld be something to contend with.

I head that te probe gt runs mid 15s stock, thats pretty ern quick i think, while stock s13s run like lowor mid 16s and 0-60 in 8.0s i think. Somebody corect me.

the jspec engine is the KZ-LE. 2.5L, dohc, 200hp with a sky high powerband. its basicly a hotter version of the US v6.

MX-6s aren't bad cars. id rather have one of the early turbo MX-6s. the problem is the V6 doesn't have a lot of potential. the jspec engine is about as good as it gets. you can turbo them but at great expense with a lot of fab work.

the problem about forced induction on em is the high CR which is not friendly to forced induction. ive also herd these engines dont take nitrous very well.

with a lot of head work and really aggressive cams the KZ-LE could make a nice all motor setup.

i like the MX-3 v6 better. how many v6s do you know of will rev to 7500rpm in stock trim and sound sweet doing so

jmillheiser: That's KL-ZE =) but otherwise you are right. They don't take nitrous well because of the VRISC (dunno if that's how it's spelled exactly) system that they have. Basically it's two sets of butterflies in the intake manifold that open and close at different RPMs to maximize torque and hp. Nitrous tends to puddle inside and that usually a bad thing.

I think it's pretty sweet that in the MX-3 you could get a 1.8L V6, pretty freaking small V6 if you ask me. Still way more bore than stroke though, so it revs smooth and lasts forever.

yeah that little 1.8L engine is interesting. smallest 6cyl engine ive ever seen.

yet strangley enough i know of a v8 that is smaller. suzuki has/had a 1.6L v8 in one of their JDM cars

Yea, supposedly it was one of the smallest V6s made. I still think a probe (KL-ZE or KL-03 (US) ) is the best sounding V6 with an exhaust. Especially a borla.

The MX-3's 1.8L V6 is the smallest productive V6 yet. Pretty schweet indeed.

I owned a '93 Probe GT for 2 years and am about to buy another one. They are amazing cars and are a TON of fun to drive. I've never had the feelings for my 240 that I did for my Probe, so I'm going to sell it.

The Probe I'm looking at right now is another '93, with a KLZE engine (200hp), 5-speed, for $3700.

That is the true beauty of Probes....they're dirt cheap because no one but the enthusiasts give a rat's cornhole about them. :)

MX-6 V6s have 164hp stock, but with the smaller wheels/tires and the slightly heavier body, they're a touch slower than Probe GTs (who come stock with 225/50/16s).

If I have money left after paying signal auto for the body work on my s14, and other expenses for the mechanical work with nismo_freak, then I might get another car just to work on, and it could be a mx6, they have good bang for the buck, and are ery reliable. FWD cars turn easier and are more stable. The steering feels lighter than RWD cars, I've driven a MX6 and they are pretty fast, so like I said, don't hate, cause if I ever get my hands on a mx6 . . you better watch the **** out, cause all of you haters get a chance to be owned . . My friend has a 425 horsepower MX6 with tons of custom work done on it, so I respect the car and so should you. Cause he'll burn you as quick as rice.
