Huh? Do you have a widescren monitor or something? Because that's a widescreen format . YOu should be running at 1280x1024 if you have a standard monitor.

Just for kicks, see if your system can handle playing those games at 1600x1200.

pmq is right, do you have a wide screen? i usually run that in my notebook.

as for 16x12, he may run it. but at 4x aa, it may not be as enjoyable as 1280. less fps.

Nope. Not widescreen, but it IS running in 1280x960. I just have a regular 17 inch monitor....1280x960 on the windows desktop is distorted...I think there's something wrong with unreal or something...maybe it's just smart enough to adjust to 1280x1024

Unfortunately, 1280x1024 is the highest UT2k4 will go, or I would be running at 1600x1200.

HL2 works fairly well at that resolution, but it goes from framerates in the ~100 fps range to ~30-40 fps range. It also slows badly when explosions happen or when zombies are on fire.

DOOM3, however, is a f*** system hog. All my other games run at "maxed out" and 1280x1024 or above resolution, doom 3 is stuck at 1024x768 and "high" settings (there are a few with "highest" and one with two steps up from "high") and it STILL runs badly for the first minute or so of play. Sad thing is, it doesn't really look that good. It's got that fisher price feel...everything is bulky and plastic looking, textures don't look realistic.

I had to work yesterday...a friend got married and I took his wife's shift so they could actually have the wedding. So I haven't had a lot of time to play around with this thing yet.

Hmm, I thought Doom 3 looked pretty good, but I haven't play HL2 so I can't compare the two.

ANyway, yeah D3 is what'll either make or break your system.

Hey, isn't D3 geared towards Nvidia and HL2 towards ATI? THat might be the problem with it running slower

Actually, I the DOOM3 boxes, cases, and startup sequences don't show anything of either, and the site shows no favoritism either. I'm not sure which it was optimized for. Of course, UT2k4 is Nvidia optimized, and I can host a multiplay lan game with all video options all the way up ANd bots, and have insane framerates with that...

We had a bachelor party for my friend friday night...we had an Xbox lan party with three Xboxes and Doom3. The game looks like s*** on the Xbox. Real time lighting is all but nonexistent--and THAT is what makes it such an atmospheric game. No light from muzzle flashes or projectiles...resolution's terrible, seems like there's no antialiasing, and the bump mapping is mostly only half there...

Hmm, IIRC Doom3 was partially funded by Nvidia, and HL2 by ATI.

Yeah, well...the bachelor was not the kind of guy who would have really enjoyed a stripper...he would have just felt awkward and guilty.

We were going to get one, but we decided not to traumatize him.

okay, first of all, doom3's textures suck., yes. dah shadows is the thing that rules.

and what the hell are you talking about. i played unreal tournament 04 at 1900x somthing. still with higher than 80 fps.

your card is really fast. 9800 xt is about 10% faster than yours.

I say update your drivers and reload DX9. first try old drivers that were made for your generation of video cards.

Yep, updatede drivers, if you haven't done it in awhile, is sometimes good for up to a 50% increase in FPS

I haven't ever played Deathmatch...

I'm licking my lips in anticipation of some DOD source...I hope it doesn't have to be purchased...it really doesn't have a big enough following to warrant that...
