my chip made a noticeable improvementJakw wrote:16.9 is not 'pretty good for stock if you think about it', lol. That's like at least a second slower than a stock n/a 300zx 2+2 can do with a good driver.
On that note, maybe getting a JWT chip would bring the J's performance a little closer to a stock 300zx's. I think I read that the J30's ecu is a little different for better fuel economy, hence a little slower. Might be a lie, though.
I actually learned a lot from that segment. I think it should be a sticky here.gr8scott72 wrote:

All of you thinking the J is some kind of fast machine, did you see the 1/4 mile time? 16.7 seconds. Not very fast. In comparison, my VW Golf I use to have did a 13.9 second 1/4 mile with about $1000 in mods in it. (Chip, downpipe, pulleys) 3 seconds is an eternity in a 1/4 mile race.
Sounds like you have a lot of auto-x experience. I'm also assuming that you are older than I am.driverdriver wrote:Its basically stock.
The super HICAS is a 4 wheel steering systems available on 1993 and 1994 "t" models only.
The trick to racing a J against any other vehicle is picking a course with lots of turns and/or switchbacks. The HICAS steering lets you corner like your on rails. You never have to touch the brakes like most other cars turning in and body roll is imperceptible. I keep my foot on the gas. When you finally hit straightaway, you have big time momentum coming out of the turn. The other car has been braking most of that time and needs to accelerate to catch you.

cams, exhaust, underdrive pulleys, 370cc injectors, aeromotive fuel pump,Jakw wrote:I'd hope so, for like, $600 or whatever. I thought about it for a little bit myself, but being broke kinda ruined my plans. I'm interested in your dyno numbers, though. You did cams, exhaust, what else was there?
If you even think about making your J like this, I will flame you.naladude911 wrote:please post the pic of the riced J30, and the superbowl add!!!
Oh, & I posted the wrong ET's for those races that night. My bad.driverdriver wrote:When the J30 debuted it was marketed as a "personal luxury" sedan, it really wasn't supposed to be a fast car even though it shared the 300zx engine, more like a boulevard cruiser. I have an Iomega disk somewhere, where I have a copy of a 4 minute J30 "movie" commercial that played during I think the 1993 Superbowl. The commercial is interesting because it markets the vehicle as "finer thing in life" or luxury good rather than a performance car.
