I recently moved to Columbia, SC and are having some problems with the local dealerships here.

Our Z originally had synthetic blend from the dealership when we drove it out to SC from WA. We took it in to a Nissan dealership here for an oil change and they used regular, not synth-blend. It was already done, so we figured we would just switch it back the next time.

We just took our car in again and asked for synth-blend again. This time, they filled it with full synthetic and we paid $80 for an oil change! I thought I read somewhere on here that once you put synthetic in your car, you can't go back to regular. Is this true? I'm wondering if there will be any issues to our car because it had full synthetic in it, right after the regular, and now it is being changed out to synth-blend. Does it somehow need to be flushed out or something?

I've called the dealership and told them to put synth-blend in the car and that I want the price difference refunded to me. Obviously, we'll never go to this dealership again. Anyone know of a good local auto shop in Columbia, SC?

Thanks for any input.

Well, called around to various dealerships and only one said it would be better to keep the full synthetic in and all the others said it wouldn't be a problem to switch to synthetic blend. I'm switching back!

Thank you. After talking with several dealerships, I've decided to keep the full synthetic. Never knew a simple oil change could be such a pain.

You would save a fortune if you would change your own oil. A 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 5W30 is around $30 at Wal Mart and filters can be had for less than $10.

I wish I could. We used to do it ourselves when we lived in WA and had a garage. We now live in a condo and one of the rules is no work on your car anywhere on the property.

Flippin' condos. I feel for you - as much as I'd love to have someone take care of the yards and other extraneous crap like that its reasons like the one that you just mentioned that will keep me firmly in the house owning camp.

Maybe some friendly NICO member in the Columbia area will chime in with some space for use and you can get a local "Garage Days" set as a semi-regular event.
