Yes you can, and I for reasons of my own do it on a regular basis here in Texas. When you change all 4 at once on a FWD car you actually are likely throwing away some tire that can run longer. I have only bought pairs for 20 years now on 3 FWD cars and no regrets doing it. The new go on the front and the old front go to the back. The backs are the ones that get junked. Of course, if you have all 4 new at same time then you do not have two that are ready to junk. That has to be worked out, but say a flat ruining one and makes it easier. Rear tires almost always flat more than the fronts.
Do that and averaged out you find yourself buying about 20-25% less tire overall. So almost one free every time you cycle 4.
The only thing I can think of to get in the way of it would be if you are in a northern clime where you positively need a lot of tread on the rear to help keep from skating around as much on ice.
