I can't find the oil dipstick guide that goes into the pump! I had two from two engines but I can't find either, chances are I never took them off the pumps before throwing them away (GAH!!! @(#%@ IDIOT)

The pulsar uses a different part, anyone know if that'll be an issue on a RWD car? Obviously it should fit the pump its the same, and the front covers are all the same..

Looks like it doesn't bolt to anything so it may be no issue other than getting one to replace it. Does anyone have a spare? 2nd day can't be too hideous for something so small... looks like it could be brute forced on w/ the rest of the engine put together pretty much i.e. front covers etc.

i dont know how it is on the CA, but I have put some on cars with the engine in. It is really a pressed fit but there is a way to do it. Put the tube in the freezer for an hour or two, and heat up the block where the hole is. Once you get the block hot get the tube and slide it in. It should work fairly easily.

you really have got to love those complications you ALWAYS get when rebuilding an engine. it wouldnt be the same without them. i mean, i forgot the head location pins, that cant be too much better, right?

Sehn, is the Pulsar one going to point the right way, or have you checked?

It looks like it'll point if anything further to the side (less vertical), but I can just grab it with some visegrips and fix that

The bottom end will mate and thats all that matters, the rest is bodgable.

The pulsar dipstick will work fine, it is the same one, just the tube that holds the stick is a bit bent, you can bend it any way you want but don't bend it too much other wise the dip stick won't come out or won't go in.

I haven't been around, I have been rebuilding a CA18det RWD for a customer, you guys will love it when I post some pics, right now, I won't post any pics as the owner haven't seen it yet, until he gets it in a week or so, I will post some pics.

GAHHHH

We were about to put the intake mani on, and were cleaning stuff / moving stuff so we could move the engine further from the car so we could still walk past it after putting it on.

My friend found the oil dipstick guide wrapped in some of the random shop towels, I had even picked them up previously when we were looking for it and didn't notice it was amonst them!

So we figure we'd install it..

You CANNOT install it with the front covers on, or the timing belt idler on.This meant removing the crank pully, the upper and lower timing belt covers, and loosing up the timing belt so we could pull the idler far enough out to get it behind it. Afterwards, we had to re-time the belt as the exhaust cam jumped when the belt was loosened. Then put the rest of it back on.. feh.

Glad we found it now taking all that off when it was in the car would be PITA. I'm not going to cancel the order on the DE part since I'll need it for the other engine probably anyways...
