I've had my M35X for about 2 months and have noticed a noise that happens over rough sections of pavement that is a "symbol like" high pitch buzzing, or rattling that pops up and then goes away over normal pavement. It sounds like it is coming from just under/to the left of my steering wheel. Any ideas as to what this could be?

I'm not sure I could duplicate it for a technician, because it has to be over a rough section of road to occur.

Not sure what that could be but just tell them to drive around a bit. I've got rattling coming from it sounds like under the window buttons panel on the driver's door.

No way I could duplicate it without driving although this rattling can occur driving on relatively normal roads, not necessarily very rough. But I'm going to be very clear to the dealership: you need to drive this and listen for yourself.

are you sure its not the rear view mirror? They are known for making a buzzing sound when you drive at highway speeds over certain textured roads. The buzzing sounds like its coming from the dash, but if you can get a friend to drive your car you can put your ear near the mirror and you can hear it buzzing.

I made a thread about this!!!!!

It's so irritating. Why is the bezel around the mirror built such that it easily rattles over rough roads? I have to squeeze it to make it shut up.

I assume there's no "fix" for this?

Frankly I'd be fine with an old-school rear view with none of the gadgets. At least it wouldn't rattle.

I've had it to the dealer twice and they've tried to fix it.... When I get some time I'm going to take the mirror off and take the bezel off, run a thin bead of silicone sealant around the inside edge of the bezel and put it back together and see if that stops the buzzing.

I have noticed the same tiny metallic noise coming either from the driver side window or door or speaker ..it is def. on the drivers left side. I'm gonna take it to the dealer and have them fix it.

Did anyone else get this fixed?

If anyone finds a fix, please post to let us know. I have the same issue and no, its not the mirror which occasionally needs a "squeeze" to get rid of its rattle. I think it may be the hood release lever down on the lower left side of the dash. Try "dampening" it with your hand when driving on a rough road to see if that eliminates the buzz - it seems to on my M. If this works for anyone else, please post. Not certain how to fix if this, if in fact, the cause.

There are many things that can emit noise under the steering column area. There are several control units that can in certain circumstances make noise. These always tend to be something unique in nature and are rarely common issues.

That being said the are some occasions where the homelink mirrors may rattle. These are universal mirrors and not Infinitis own design. But the M is usually pretty quiet with the exception of some rear speakers vibrations.

zer...queak

That resolves the noise from there.

I bhad the rear view rattle and infiniti replaced the rearview mirror.

I also have the metallic rattle coming form lower left side of the steering column area.

I have really had time to diagnose it since it only does it one some roads.

Please let me know if anyone finds out what it is.

Mirror replacement is actually not sanctioned by warranty anymore. If you get one more power to you, but I think they realized these mirrors cost $1200/ea and the company that makes them has a kit to replace the buttons and the rattle can be insulted for only pennies.

Buzzing noises on certain roads are one of the hardest things to fix from my perspective. While I personally like the challenge of chasing phantom noises and spending hours taking something off and driving it. What is worse than a noise in the left front is a noise in the rear that I cannot see from the drivers seat. These sometimes require riding in the trunk, while trusting a co-worker tries to replicate the noise.

Regardless of that you have a valid concern and if you can replicate it we can fix it.

I thought I was the only one with this annoyance!Definitely on the left side, a high pitched metallic rattling on an un-smooth road surface. I thought it might even be coming from the drivers wheel. I have tried to pinpoint where exactly it is originating from, but I would need a passenger to hold the wheel so I can fish around for it.

If anyone finds the culprit please post !

Aidan - try dampening the hood release lever with your left hand while driving over a rough road and post back if that is the source of your rattle.

ok..I took my car to the dealer and they said they found the problem and fixed. They replaced the sway bar!! I have no clue what this is but looks like the metallic rattle noise is gone or atleast not as loud it used to be. I drove about 40 miles to work today and I didnt hear the noise. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I thought I heard it again once but it just could be my imagination after having lived with noise for close to 8 months.

Weird thing was that when I told the dealer that I'm hearing this tiny metallic rattle noise..he immediately pulled a paper/template which had few schematics of the car and he wanted me to mark the areas from where the noise was coming from and under what conditions etc.!!

Hope this will help you guys out.

Sway bar, that is buzzing inside by the steering column? That seems odd. Have you heard anymore since then?

I still think the majority of these types of noises come from different sources as the possibilities are countless. I am skeptical as well at the source of this type of noise. The sway has no moving or insulating parts and is really only a bar.

gkh1996, Did you ever get your issue fixed? I also found this youtube link, it's the same as my noise rattle too :(

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3TfAOBE0Dg

It's some metallic rattle noise coming from the dash area that I can't seem to trace.

Does anyone have a helpful solution? :gotme
