well i got around to washing my car yesterday when i noticed the area around the exhaust tip was melted.. I inspected a little further and saw that the styrofoam was partially melted also. the car is a 2006 G35 sedan with 15kmiles and factory exhaust. the rear exhaust section wasnt hit in any way causing the exhaust tips to shift upwards near the bumper.. would this be covered under warranty?

to answer your question, it should be covered if you can convince the dealer over me--4 yr bumper to bumper. sorry to break it to you but looking at these pictures it doesn't look like the plastic melted, it looks like its been cleanly broken. the right tip looks like it has damage to it and the scratches/sharp edges on/of the plastic. that and i haven't heard of this before from anyone, any car. i don't think the gases are hot enough to melt plastic once they reach the tips and if they are, it would be a slow process that would require hours of constant run time with the plastic constantly getting all the heat. but if its melted it would seem to me you have a bigger problem than just a melted bumper unless you were at a standstill for hours upon hours, don't quote me on that cuz i'm no tech (and no i'm not an insurance claims investigator, just using my powers of observation and a little reason).

Al thought it might look that there is some warp / distortion from the pieces (might just be dirty) it looks like its clean chipped off.

I think someone hit you from behind. It was a weird angle, but the plastic isn't melted-there isn't any burn marks.
