ehhh...they're nice rifles..but even heavier than the M14. Usually don't have the accuracy either.

Nice looking guns, but how do you guys use these? I mean, do you go to courses where you run from one stage to the next shooting multiple and timing it, or do you typically go to ranges where you sit/stand in one spot and have your one target to shoot at?

For me, I want to get a nice pistol because my shooting areas have too short of a range for a(n) sport/assault rifle.

I shoot in a couple different places. There is a spot out in the desert near my house that we're allowed to shoot at so we usually take our arsenal out there and shoot random stuff. We like to have rifle contests. We set up somewhat small 12" targets at about 100-115yds and see who can get the smallest 3 shot group. I win more often than not as I'm a little better with the rifles than the other two guys. For pistol, I usually go to an indoor range and kill some paper.

So you're looking for a pistol for home defense. One thing to take into consideration, is there a possibility that your wife/gf/significant other will need to use it? If so, my suggestion would be to get a revolver. You don't have to worry about training her on using a safety. All she has to do is pull back on the hammer and pull the trigger.

when I have time and money together, I wanna do some 3 gun competitions. I love taking the big rifles out and shooting 100 yds or better though.

having a saftey to worry about shouldn't be an issue with proper training on how to use the pistol.

where the revolver comes in handy is that you don't have to worry about racking the slide, for some women, this can be an issue.

By nice pistol, I meant Kimber. :)

Around here, I can shoot mostly 15-30yds OR 200-600yds. One is best suited for pistols, the other for bolt/lever actions. That said, I pretty much never shoot my SKS. It's either outdone by my Ruger MkII pistol on the close range, or one of my dad's hunting rifles on the long stuff.

Sure, the SKS does not even come close to the AR15 based rifles, but still.

Yeah, I've never had a jam, but the physics of moving a sport rifle around, there's far more weight than a pistol. I really would like to shoot a nicely done AR15 (or other) just so I know what a nice sports rifle is like because my only experience is my SKS. Pistol shooting is just so...natural feeling. It's small and light, the gun is there and moves freely with you.

Oh, and shooting blue rock is a blast, but I'm really taking this thread all over the place now.

I just kill zombie targets. The Sig is intended for things that go bump in the night, the LWRC for anything the little gun can't stop.

the AR's balance well due to being mostly aluminum.

the SKS was never meant to be used as an "assault" rifle...though there was a variant that accepted AK mags.

they're legal up there?

what'd you get?

Looney, look into the Saiga Rifles.

they're actually pretty damn nice and will shoot around 3" or better at 100 yds it seems.

oh, they're CHEAP

You can get the .223 and 7.62x39 for less than 400 if you look. That's the makings of a great beater rifle.

Well mid 3rd gens and newer are Illegal for dealers to transfer to people. There are no Illegal handguns per say you just can't buy them new from a dealer you have to do a face to face.

I like the 9mm for the cheap cost of rounds...

and well, the Glock 19 has probably the biggest aftermarket support of anything short a milspec 1911.

If I get another 7.62 rifle to shoot the roughly 2500rds of ammo I currently have, I'll pick up a Ruger Mini-30.

BTW, I picked up my ammo MUCH cheaper than you're quoting, if you're quoting a 1440rd case. Is that price correct?

I think when I bought my case (1440rds) of Russian hollow points, it was ~$180? I then picked up a few more boxes here and there, then another ~1000rds when my dad helped clean out a foreclosure to be flipped. I even have brass and dies in case I want to reload.

I haven't priced 7.62 in a while...the Mini's...I dunno....they're weird sometimes. Some of them just won't shoot worth a damn.

Nope no Pmags for me anything over 10 rounds has to be pre 94 thank you MA. I already have about 10 pre ban AR mags and about 20 pre ban mags for my glock 19 so im all set i could put the pmag internals into my old mags oh well. I will eventually pick up the 6.8 barrel so i can shoot that too.
