ok so i just got this car for 300 bucks no pics yet. i hooked up the battery and it crank's i spray it with starting fluid and it turns on and stay's on while i spray it but soon bogs out after i let go of the spray. what got me is that no lights work at all tach didnt even move :confused: while the car was on, i fixed the electric problem but I JUST FOUND OUT WHAT THE OTHER PROBLEM WAS! THE PERSON I GOT IT FROM PUT DIESEL IN IT :mad: HOW CAN PEOPLE BE SO DUMB!!!! OK OK so i have the car all ready anyway.. The tank is empty now and i flushed the lines with fresh clean fuel and and still the car turns off after couple sec's, so i took my injectors out and gotta hold of some other used injectors that i'll thrown in. "Is there any other suggestions u guys my have to clean the diesel out".....

I would recommend changing your fuel filter and spark plugs, check the carb for sludge. The critical component is just to get the diesel out. It won't hurt the motor but it will cause it not to fire.

yea i channged the spark plugs and they were black as can be, its "fuel injected" i tryed hooking up a electric fuel pump directly to a can of good gas and it starts but it truns right off :mad: same shiz so i dont know whats next maybe other problem :confused:

Considering diesel will behave much like water in a non-diesel engine, you could have damage similar to a hydrolocked engine.

COmpression test is next.

Well i was doing a bunch of troubleshooting today while reading the service book and on one of the test's i was checking for injector pulse..Book said "disconnected first injector and hooking up a test light to each wire the the injector plug while cranking it and it should pulse", and i found that it did not pulse..there was power on at all time. Accorting to the book what it's indicating that the efi conrol unit needs to be replaced... :crazy: so ima switch that out and will see what happens. Wish me luck finding one!!

Dump as much of the fuel from the tank as you can. Not sure about the Z cars, but most other Datsuns of that era have a drain plug on the bottom of the tank. Fill the tank with some high test fuel. After that, unhook the fuel line closest to the engine and turn on the car. Let the pump run until you have clean gas. Best to catch the old fuel in a container of some sorts.

Now once you've gotten this far, hook everything back up and spin the car over without the plugs in. That will clear the diesel from the injectors and out of the cylinders. After about 5 minutes of that, put your old plugs back in. May want to clean them off first. Try to start the car, keep trying until it starts. Its going to smoke like hell, but that will clear the system out.

Edit. Ah hell, I just noticed this is a 3 year old thread. Hopefully its been fixed by now. Ill leave this up in case someone else runs into the same issue.
