I have a 89 maxima with a nice motor but the car was wrecked. I also have a nice 90 240sx with a blown head gasket. I was thinking about swaping the engines will it work.

While nothing is impossible, this would be pretty close.

I'm hopeing that even though the maxima is a front whell drive car that the bolts on the manual on the 240 will match up and a couple of minor modifications like the fuel pump and ecu adjustments it would work. Hypotheticly though.

just use the ecu from the maxima, i would think you could do it, just turn the maxima motor sideways (in relation to where it was) so that the transmission will bolt up behind it. Just make sure you have a guy that knows what hes doing while you do this.

front wheel drive car engines are mounted sidewaystheres no way to do thisunless u wanna convert your 240 to fwd, or somehow make a rwd/mid engine 240

What if I fabricated some mounts. I once put a trans am engine and trans into a 82 caddilac deville so I know anything is possible. With some fabrication. I'm just wondering about getting it started and conected to the manual rearend trans.

i realize fwd engines are mounted sideways. thats why i said sideways (in relation to where it was in the maxima) thus making it forwards. yes it is possible to put fwd engine in a rwd car. same as a rwd engine in a fwd car, like the 2.4s in the altimas. as long as the motor isnt too long for the engine bay, this swap can be done with some custom modification.

What transmission do you intend to use, because the two won't go together, trust me. The whole idea is just silly, why not put a 6.0L turbo diesel in it? A Northstar V8 maybe? Same amount of work for any of it.

but yeah i think you'll find it be easier to sell that maxima motor, buy urself another KA or an SR, or make a mid-engine 240 if u wanna be original

I don't know if it's a good ideal to swap VG motor into 240, since the motor only give you 30-50HP extra and heavier.. I believe it can be done but just don't think it's worth it

i know you want the 240 and all, but why don't you go mad scientist on the motor since it's out and put it back into a max with a 5 sp conversion? they do nice with some boost!

Sorry I haven't Replied I'v been tearing down the engine slowly to pull it out. I might be able to get another maxima with a blown engine but I'm waiting to see if the girl will sell it to me she doesn't know what she want's. I might just switch engines. She says she might sell it to me for 250. With rims and everything. I was measuring up the engins and I think the maxima moter might be a little to tall by like an inch or two in the front. basicaly because of the distributor cap in front if it was in back I might not have had a problem as for the transmission I was going on the fact that they might be similar enough to adapt to each other. See I was planing to go through this trouble because I'm opening a highperformance import shop in chicago dedicated to imports and I want to race the 240sx to advertise it. The shop is called Racer X Performance. I guess I'll just rebuild the 240 motor and maybe shave the head to get better compression.
