I am at a loss here.i have having problems with the MAF sensor.I went and got another one from a junk yard which looked in good shape but didnt have any affect.I also tried carb cleaner.I am forced to drive without the sensor plugged in because the car runs ten times worse.I am trying to figure out what to do next.should i get a brand new part or is there something else I should check first.thanks.

Is there a leak in the intake such as unmetered air getting in.

the car runs like the timing is off. When I orgially cleaned the part the engine cranked half a turn which scared me when it happened but then thought nothing of it.I dunno.I got pulled over cuz the car was smoking bad. Then got busted with POM.I already tried the reset ECU thing with the battery and even unplugged the harness to it for a few mins.Nothing.The brake booster cable is disconnected and the car runs a little better but still cant plug in the MAF.If i had money i'd take it to a shop but I dont.No one seems to have a clue.

I have the same problem too. I checked for air leaks but there was none. I dunno what to do anymore. It runs good for lil while then the rpms start to drop then it stays around 200-500 rpms then sometimes it stalls on me. For some reason for the past few days it's been running real strong then out of nowhere it loses power again. Weird man.

If your timing is to far off lets say 35 BTDC it will cause your car to give off black smoke from your exhaust, as well as give you a rough idle. Did you you get the error code for the MAF before you changed it. Also check to make sure that the EGR control valve is not sticking open, causing it to release to much exhaust gas into your intake giving you a really bad idle. Disconnect th vac line that runs to your EGR and see if that helps.

i had the same problem i thought it was the maf sensor but after changing everything everybody was telling me could be the problem i found out it was the ecu that was the problem

Just swap out the ecu with a friend and go from there

I think I have a bad maf too, my car roughs idles and when in park it'll only rev to 2,000rpms and no higher no matter how much I mash the gas pedal. In drive it'll slowly go up to 3rd gear(automatic) reving weirdly then from there it won't go past 4,000rpms no matter how much throttle. is this a bad maf kinda thing?

I had a similar problem with the MAF. The car horrible and would barely start, the connector was messed.

I unplugged the MAF and let the car start then plugged in the connector and jiggled it around a bit and the MAF kicked in. I replaced the connector with one I got off ebay.
