I was reading previous posts about unsmooth boggy power and it seems as though a previous poster had the same problem I was having. Somebody suggested checking the MAF for dirt. One of my friends also suggested running it with the MAF unplugged for a couple of miles, i did that, but then the CEL came on. But after that I cleaned it off and now my car runs great, smooooth power FINALLY...BUT, the CEL is STILL ON . I tried reseting the battery, but its still there...would i have to run the car for awhile before the car notices its back in there?

any suggestions?

I don't think the MAF is a component that requires a drive cycle to recognise a fault/correction. I do know that certain elements of the emissions system do require at least one drice cycle to recognise a repair. The drive cycle consists of driving at under 3000rpms for a certain amount of time/mileage at normal operating temperature.

Are you sure that the MAF is what is setting the CEL?

I was under the impression that running without the MAF plugged in would result in the car going into safe-mode (not being able to go above 2000rpm).

NOOOOOOOOOO. Looks like it may be time for a new MAF in that case. I would only recommend using electrical contact cleaner.

Welp, actually, seems that it works fine now...The CEL went right away. I read posts on maxima.org that it takes some mileage for the car to realize the MAF is in working order. Windex did the ticket.
