I'm with you, been here a while and don't think I've seen this come up.

$54 at Rockauto for a new ACDelco unit.

$500 for installation is a load of crap too--it cannot take more than 2 hours to swap out...

THat's as bad as the Mercedes dealer that wanted $1500 to replace the p/s pump on my 1998 SL500--$11.20 for a rebuild kit, and an hour later I was back on the road.

The water pump went out on our G37xS and I was quoted $2750 at Infiniti, that's right $2750. It is a damn joke but I heard from the mechanic I took it to he'll never do one again for the $1750 he charged me. Who and the hell said they'd do it for that much, either I got F**ked or the guy who quoted you has no clue. So it before they come to their senses.

Good luck

Andy

FWIW the water pump is internal and ran off the timing chain on the G37, so much more work involved getting to it than a M56

Nissan engineering strikes again. Who are these people and why do they suck so bad.

Water pump internal to the timing chain cover? LOL.
Have to remove the bumper to change an HID ballast? LOLOL.
Have to pull the motor to change the catalytic converts on an M56x? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

F'in engineers. If they had to repair it they'd build it differently.

Well 1750 to do a water pump on a G37 is pricey imo. I would do it myself as it is not that hard, you have to remove the front bumper and everything in front of the engine but the timing cover nor the accessories need to come off. There are plates on the timing covers that allow that stuff to be worked on. Now if you jump a tooth in the process of doing the water pump (pretty easy if you don't watch your slack in the chain), then you're certainly going to make the job take a lot longer and are going to have to pull the timing covers and all the accessories...that would make it a 1800 job imo!

Also All wheel drive cars generally just have less room so that is to explain why yours is such. On my 07 M45 the exhaust manifolds took maybe an hour to remove and reinstall. But I agree, this stuff could be made easier to work on!
