I have been without interior lights for a while. Issue happened when I was replacing interior leds without disengaging the battery. Fuse are all good. Interior lights come on when you press the dome light button but footwell lights don't come on.VStar650CL wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 6:52 amIt's mounted vertically to the left of the steering column. 1) First the configuration must be read from the existing BCM, then restored after replacement
2) Then the vehicle keys must be reprogrammed:
* For a new BCM, old/existing keys must generally be reprogrammed first and then any new ones added. If new keys are programmed first, all the old ones may become permanently unusable.
* For a used BCM, ONLY new keys can be used. Existing/old keys are NOT usable in any way with a used BCM
3) The TPMS sensors may need to be re-registered (this varies from model to model)
Did you smell burning when the lights went out? I'm asking because when it happened to me it burned the wiring inside the harness. I bought a used one for 250 and the dealer installed it for another 100 or so, so I got lucky. I just want you to be aware that it's not always the BCM alone. Sometimes wires get fried.Pakitullanc wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 7:40 amI have been without interior lights for a while. All signs point towards a blow bcm. I found a used one for $50 and new for $100. So I have to replace keys and then buy a consult3 because I am thinking dealership is not going to be programming for me if they did not do the install. What do you suggest

Hey, can't PM yet, can you PM me? It's about a part out post you had up from a bit agoreggiebrown40 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 7:19 pmDid you smell burning when the lights went out? This wasn't true in my case. I provided a used BCM and the dealer programmed my existing keys without issue.VStar650CL wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 6:52 amIt's mounted vertically to the left of the steering column. For I-keys it's true except for a few very early versions. For steel keys it isn't, and I should have made note of that. My bad.reggiebrown40 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 10:55 amThis wasn't true in my case. Hey VStar, question for you. The welcome lighting on my '17 Q70L stopped working meaning the dome light and door handle lights don't come on as you approach the car...the odd thing is the lights still come on whenever I lock, unlock, or open the doors but. Does this sound like my BCM is on the fritz? Any thoughts or insight, big or small, would be great. Thanks in advance.VStar650CL wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 11:48 amFor I-keys it's true except for a few very early versions. For steel keys it isn't, and I should have made note of that. Yes. I popped the BCM and some internal wiring when I tried to change out the bulbs.Pakitullanc wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 11:04 amDid you have the inside lights out because of led swap?
reggiebrown40 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 10:00 amYes. I'll answer all of your questions. I popped the BCM and some internal wiring when I tried to change out the bulbs. The interior lights no longer came on on their own, only when manually pushed. The harness has a wire (green) that ends up being burned when this occurs. The tech replaced the BCM and traced the burned wire in the loom and resoldered it so it had continuity. Other members have had different components replaced. The tech ended up telling me that the BCM didn't need to be replaced because the old one was fine. Since he had already paired to the new BCM I didn't push it.Pakitullanc wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 11:04 amDid you have the inside lights out because of led swap?
Some dealers are good about finding the burned wires. Others will try to charge you about 3 grand for the entire wiring harness. I guess I got lucky.

Not sure what you're saying here. Please explain.VStar650CL wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 11:48 amFor I-keys it's true except for a few very early versions. For steel keys it isn't, and I should have made note of that. My bad.reggiebrown40 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 10:55 am

I went to the dealership with a BCM specific to my vin and the car won't start. They reprogrammed the keys and same result. One member here had to have a harness replaced. I am thinking that is what I need. The harness is $700. That is what is holding me back. I too blew my BCM while swapping ledsreggiebrown40 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 10:21 amNot sure what you're saying here. Please explain.VStar650CL wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 11:48 am

Steel keys are ones you stick in the ignition and turn, they only use RFID and are reusable if you swap BCM's. I-keys are ones you can keep in your pocket and start the car, and all the late-model ones mate with the BCM and become unusable if you swap for a used BCM (but they can be mated to a new replacement).reggiebrown40 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 10:21 amNot sure what you're saying here. Ok, understood. You're referring to a key not used by the Q70/M56, but maybe <2002 Q45 year vehicles with chips in the housing of the key. Intelligent Keys are programmable with used BCMs. I had both of my keys paired to a used bcm when I thought I had fried the original bcm. Where did you hear that they can't be paired?VStar650CL wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 12:24 pmSteel keys are ones you stick in the ignition and turn, they only use RFID and are reusable if you swap BCM's. Ok, so your car used to start and then after you swapped the LED's it blew the BCM and now it won't start? If that's the case, you've got some major wiring damage or the replacement BCM is bad.Pakitullanc wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 10:28 amI went to the dealership with a BCM specific to my vin and the car won't start.
