Well damn. If this intake was available for my M35 I would put an order in right now! The differences between the 35/45 intake designs can't be too great, can they? I just think that the company is missing out on lots of potential profits by not making an application for the M35. I would think it would also help to recoup some of the R&D dollars invested in the first place. Also, it seems to me that more M35 owners would be interested in getting more power out of the V6 in hopes of keeping up with the V8 M's. And where I live, there are exponentially more M35's on the street anyway (meaning a larger group of possible customers). I would gladly be the test mule if I wasn't in Kansas City with the AWD model. It's just frustrating for us V6 owners when the 45 is already faster than our cars as it is. Re-submit the idea to them and get the ball rolling, Red!! Regardless, good job on finally producing a CAI that is a worthy investment.

In addition to purchasing the Intake I was also wanting to pick up the G37 BBK, it appears, based upon the BBK write-up/how to, that this kit would also work on the M45, is that your assumption as well?

I would not hold your breath, had to pull teeth to get the M45 intake and they aren't flying off the shelves. How many people really mods these cars, to include M56's?

I didn't read through this entire post, just the link. Are you saying that this intake alone with dyno will give me 10hp and 12lbs more torque?

Looks great, but I can't see myself spending almost $300 for a bent pipe, cone filter, and a heat shield.
Supply/Demand, I guess

Anybody in Cali have one of these installed and left it on when it comes to smog our cars? I would hate to put the stock intake box back on every 2 years.

RED_DET wrote:Thanks for being so positive. Shows great character? What is it that you do for a living? You some type of Engineer that we aren't aware of? If there can be no gains made from the R2C intake, then they won't make the application, that is pretty simple. But instead of being the "nay sayer" from jump street, how about we let the data tell us whether or not there is any reason to make this setup? If you are going to be so negative, stay out of my thread, period.
Respectfully, there was NO need to be that childish, and normally I would just have a laugh and move on. However, you mentioned character? Character is demonstrated by responding intelligently and respectfully to criticism, not by assaulting the critic. As for backing up statements with data? I have data to support the fact that a CAI will do almost nothing without a tune. If you can demonstrate a noticeable HP increase without a tune, I would like to see it and I will stand corrected and stop nay-saying the idea of a CAI. Watch this:

http://youtu.be/gCi2yo4UqPI

Of course companies will make applications like CAI's. It makes a great sound when you mash the pedal and most people don't have access to a Dino to actually verify the company claims. Some other examples of stuff peeps buy like crazy even though they do not do live up to the seller's claims:

1) The famous magnetic MPG gizmo - a red box that you bolt around the fuel line to 'align the fuel molecules' and increase your MPG by 5-10 miles per gallon. (too bad fuel isn't magnetc and is not affected by the product).

2) The little gizmo you shove into the exhaust pipe to make 'turbo blow-back' sounds. (It's actually a plastic whistle and it sounds like one too).

3) The front license plate cover or spray that jams radar and CCTV speed cameras. (it was tested by many police departments and it does nothing but make your plate shiny.

Installing a CAI is NOT a waste of money - it does make a nice sound and it makes the engine appear to have more power, but it has been proven time and time again that the most HP gain is usually less than 10 - not even close to makng a noticeable difference unless you combine it with an actual tune - then you're ARE adding noticeable power.

Correct me with data if I am mistaken.

If you would have responded 4 years ago to that post you quoted, then there would be more to this post....

The "dyno"comparison of the r2c vs stock was posted in the thread several years ago.

The report, if I read it correctly (and let me know if not) shows a gain of 10hp at a cost of $300. Educate me if I read that wrong because I am certainly NOT an automotive specialist of any kind - my career is in pharmacology and chemistry. I'm just a gear head wanna-be and I won't be offended if you show me where I went wrong. I don't want to yap about CAI being lots of money for little gain if I am telling peeps incorrect info.

The dyno shows a gain of 10WHP & 13 ft-lbs over stock and I'm sure anyone can see the comparison.

If you are expecting some astronomical horse power gain from any intake on a N/A vehicle, then you have the wrong platform and should look for a turbo vehicle.

You are never going to please everyone. Some people don't care to pay $300 for intake because they understand the gains are what they are and then on the other end of the spectrum, those that complain because $300 didn't get them 100hp on a N/A. But yet those some folks will spend $1000+ on an exhaust and see only 20hp gain.....

Thank you for taking the time to explain all that. You're absolutely right - everyone is different and they weigh cost Vs benefit differently. Note I didn't say it was a waste of money, I said it's not a significant gain (less than 10%) without the additional tune. Thanks again for the info.
