I have a 2013 Infiniti m37S with 144000 miles. The 4WAS light and TSS lights came on a few months ago. Intermittent at first, then constant, no cruise control nor any Driver assist functions at all. After checking connectors, splicing wires and cleaning the rear actuator motor, i finally took it to Christian Brothers in Norman OK. They advise me that the motor was shorting out and the recommended repair was to replace the Rear 4WAS with a new part ($6k) or a rebuilt unit ($3500).
I was able to purchase a complete rear active steering actuator part #55705-JK01B on eBay for $225. Although, the item was for a later model Q60, the actuator motor was identical in bolt pattern

Motor marked "EB"
and connector. The faulty motor was the issue.

Happy to report, my M37S is back to peak performance, all systems "GO". I am going to take it in to verify the wheel alignments as a precaution for the health of my tires.

Replace the rear active steering motor with a used one or have motor rebuilt. It looks like most if not all Infiniti 4WAS have interchangeable motors. It worked for me.

iamman, thank you for reporting on your path to success. I am glad you are able to enjoy the full capabilities of your sport model again.

For the benefit of everyone else, I wanted to highlight this part below. I have always encouraged people to do proper diagnosis before resorting to swapping parts, or causing some other form of irreversible damage.

A dealership would be one of the first places I think of taking my car for this issue since they have the tools for it. Not that I am willing to blindly fork over the $6,000 for them to fix the issue per the official recommendation, but at minimum I'll have them narrow down the main issue from the 7 other possibilities.
Granted, not every dealership is able to properly diagnose every problem that comes to them, but it seems Christian Brothers might be one of the better ones. If I may ask, how much did they charge you for this episode, and how long did it take them?

Oh, and I'd like to add that yes, the RAS motors from earlier models seem to be less prone to failure compared to the units in the 2011+ Ms. If I were to have a 4WAS issue on my M56 and the problem was narrowed down to the rear motor/actuator, I would replace it with one from a 2006-2010 M35 or M45 sport...or any other as long as the price was right, and they have a proven track record for reliability.

Christian Brothers $99 diagnosis / diagnostic process, about two hours time in shop.

Hello! Having same issue with my 2012 M37s, replaced abs unit according have only two codes, didn’t help, took to the dealership and was told rear rack needs to be replaced. So I found and bought just a motor from g37 (same part number as q60). Here is a question now, do I need to reprogram or relearn any sensor after replacing motors or just plug new one and go? Thank you!

Update! So actuator was from g37 IPL and was had too, sent it back to seller and got my refund, was looking for a while and found whole rack for $700, bought it, decided not to install it and just connect first and lights didn’t turn on, replaced rack, did wheel alignment, everything is working now, need to get used to blind spot indicators and lane keeper warning 😊. Thinking to sell it and get base model 😊

I have been looking for a HICAS. Cheapest one is a $1100. Anyone had luck finding a cheaper one lately.

Just to provide another data point. I've now got the C1138 problem on my 2013 M37 sport. Dealer wants ~$8000 to repair. Makes no sense on a car worth $16K. Guess it's time to find a new vehicle but sadly, won't be an Infiniti since they don't make the M37/Q70 any more. Not to mention this problem soured me on the brand.

If it is the same 4was problem I had, I fixed mine for $250.

My 4WAS lights came back on about 3 weeks ago. I was able to take the actuator motor apart and use "Free All" penetrating oil to free up the motor bearing. The motor shaft was hard to turn. It spends freely now and problems and warning lights "OFF". It took me about 30 minutes.

I am not sure about the "Free All" oil. That may have been a temp fix. I replaced the actuator and the steering angle sensor cable then recalibrate it to the actuator.

Hi

I too have replaced the motor, next is angle sensor and cable. What's involved in calibrating this?

tas74t,

Once you have it installed turn, I believe clockwise little at a time and td the car. I had to turn a little bit at a time twice before light went off. Just look around, either this thread or the other thread under my screen name and you will find pics. If not they are also in the Infiniti Facebook group too, GL
