Good evening gang,
About a year or two ago my driver side mirror stopped folding. It wasn’t a huge deal, but over time it’s becoming more and more loose. Fast forward to last weekend and a rock knocked a hole in my passenger side mirror. Interestingly enough, all functions still work. I want to repair/replace both and I’m wondering if the motor in the passenger side is the same as the driver side? If so, I could buy a passenger replacement and take the motor from the old/damaged one and use it in the driver side. Anyone have any guidance or experience with this?

I can't help with the motors, but my driver side is shot too. Just outa the blue stopped working (glass still works) and has WAY more play to it. Will literally move with the wind just enough where I need to stick my hand out of the window and fix it every 30 min or so.

Same. I haven’t seen anyone on YouTube post any vids for our cars, but I saw a vid of a QX56 and the motor didn’t appear to be specific to a particular side.

The motors are almost the same. The base is different, but you can take the internal gears from the passenger side and transfer it to your driver side.

New motors are about $240-250 a side. I posted the part numbers on another post.

Thanks! When I get around to buying a passenger replacement I’ll post my experience with repairing the driver side.

I saw a guy on EBay out of texas that repairs the mirrors.

Yeah, I saw that. I'm going to replace the passenger side and take it apart. If I'm able to see what needs to be replaced on the driver's side I'll do it myself. If not, the guy in Texas is an option. Thanks!

my bet is the plastic coupler on the motor to the worm gear. The hole probably wore out and the motor is just spinning.

You're probably right. Hopefully I get to it in the next month or so. Assuming I don't get any new repair surprises.
