I also need to keep it quiet as this car is the DD and family car.

I called Megan Racing and was told that the exhaust would be in-stock in about 3 weeks.

I have called many stores just to see if someone had it in-stock and up to now I have not found one.

Can a moderator please edit this thread title to "Official Exhaust Thread" and maybe combine the two header threads with this one? There is a good bit of examples here and this would be a good thread to keep going in the future as more parts come out, etc.

I've already linked it in the FAQ

lol Eric.

Thanks though. I feel if we keep things to concise threads, everyone will be better off. Especially the rookies.

Thanks JasonR

I was able to install the mufflers today at the cost of me freezing (30 degrees without the wind).

I will try to make a video, maybe this weekend.

Hey guys,

I've been debating getting an exhaust for my M45 and I have a few questions. I came across a deal for a megan catback exhaust for $635 shipped. First off is that a good price?

Should I go for the axleback or is the catback really worth it?

I've also checked out a ton of youtube vids on the sound of the megan and searched a lot of the forum for exhaust discussion and haven't been able to get a good idea of the sound of the exhaust. I don't want to sound like a street racing civic, integra, altima etc. But I also don't want it to sound like a muscle car. Can someone give me a good idea of the sound or maybe provide a good, clear sounding video?

Is there any issues or special instructions needed for the install or is it a pretty simple bolt on?

Finally if anyone that has the megan can give me their true and honest opinion of the exhaust and their likes, dislikes and how happy or unhappy they are I would certainly appreciate any and all feedback.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

I too am interested in hearing a clip of the Megan, but on a 35. As far as that price, I am not too sure. I know the axle back can be had for 315 on ebay and I thought the midpipes were only around 120 or so...

interesting debate on aftermarket exhausts...I initially put on free flow exhaust and the performance was great, but I lost the 'quietness' inside the cabin...on those days coming home from work, I didn't care too much for the slight drone -- it wasn't bad like I've experienced in my other friends' cars but I'm just picky...don't know how the inside cabin of an M sounds with either the Stillen or Megan set up, but would be curious since everyone only describes the 'rumble' outside of the car... :naughty:

I ended up taking out the aftermkt muffs and putting the stocks back on w/ bigger tips -- also completely repiping the underside...took out everything from the Cats...used 2 1/4" piping all the way thru (dual from cats to x pipe to highflow resonators to stock mufflers)...what a difference...I have the inside cabin 'Drown Free' plus the performance increase compared to stock piping... I will be looking to visit LSD motorsports (i'm local) to check out the header and spacer set up...then get my car tuned....

Sorry for the repost. I think I commented this a while back in a different thread.

I started out with the Stillen exhaust. I eventually switched to the Megan, because I kept scraping the driveway curb with the larger Stillen tips.

I had the cat backs on both.

The Megans are definitely louder in my opinion. I'm used to it now, of course. It doesn't sound like a puny 4-cyl car with a coffee can exhaust, and it lacks the chest-thumping rumble of a muscle car. Think of the G35 exhaust tone, but much lower and appropriate.

If I had any decent recording equipment, I'd record a sample.

I'm in the process of re-doing the exhaust on my M45. I had the stock 1 3/4" piping replaced with a true-dual 2 1/4" set... Took out the resonators and left the stock mufflers and tips... Gives me a hell of a sound on start up... Sounds like a stock Vette, but not as loud during accelleration. After about 2 days, I noticed it was making a loud "papping" sound during heavy throttle, almost like a glasspack... Went back to the shop and they said they could put the resonators back on and it would eliminate this, but it would quiet the exhaust note... Sooo I decided to replace the stock mufflers and tips with a Magnaflow set-up. So we shall see what happens.

Andy,

Thanks for the info. Just a few more questions for you.

How is the sound inside the cabin? Has there been a noticeable performance increase or is it negligible? What's you honest opinion of the set-up?

It's funny. When I first got the Megan, I thought it was loud. Now I'm totally used to it. Doesn't bother me one bit. At idle or cruising you barely notice anything different (when you're inside).

The car felt slightly more responsive, but it's hard to say if it's a placebo or not.

But I like it. I like the more aggressive sound (vs the Stillen).

One other nice thing about the Megan system is you can just buy the axle-back portion alone, while retaining the cat-back pipes, if you want to go about this piece by piece.

I have a video on youtube showing what my M45 sounds like with the resonators off it, it sounds pretty good, My camera phone does not do it any justice, but check it out. My name on youtube is Ugoal39, just type it in, there are two videos, the clearer one is better. M45 without resonators.

by chance have you installed the new mufflers?? if so, how is it compared to before?? I'm sure performance went up, did it eliminate the 'papping' sound?? just curious...thanks.

I'm debating this too and it's between Stillen cat-back(more$$) and Megan axle back(I was told by the shop it is worth it) and shouldn't go for more money with full cat-back........... we shall see what I decide to get.. I'm in the process of doing my rear end now.. tail lights, roof spoiler and exhaust.. :bigthumb:

I ordered an axle-back Megan last week from Statik Performance. They did not have it in-stock (like everyone else I checked with), but they are expecting a shipment early April. Price was great when I mentioned being a member of this forum ;)

I think I'm sold on the Megan Mid-Pipe and Axle-Back. You guys think it would sound a little quieter on a M35? Especially since I don't have an intake?
