Why does am Infinity M30 look identical to a 240? is it like the whole Talon Eclipes Laser thing? Or is it a different drivetrain and ****?

There rear's look a bit like the ugly S13 coupes but the front end is far to boxy, more like the old Stanzas/Sentras....

rwd, lsd and 162 hp, 180 tq. had the VG30E used in late eighties maxima and 300zx. took engine from max and mounted it longitudinally instead of transversely. offered in both coupe and convertible. coupe 0-60 in high 8's

How much does it weigh? That could make a pretty nice beater....

curb weight is 3576 for convertible and 3333 for coupe. the convertible was actually a coupe that was made into a convertible by American Sunroof Company in California. could be a beater? yeah, it's only auto, but like the other infiniti's you have ABS, driver's airbag, moonroof, leather, auto climate control, power windows and doors, power drivers seat, anti-theft and bose stereo. had a weird suspension thing borrowed from the max which had a sensor to read the road surface and adjust shock damping. driver can choose soft, medium or firm damping in addition

By beater I mean that it is cheap! Too bad there is no manual. If all stuff but the drivetrain and brakes broke and it was my "beater" I could care less...

Rex has one as his daily driver, loves that stupid car to death for some reason. Right now we're trying to find a transmission that will take 400+hp to mate up with the VG30ET we're going to build for it.

I was actually contemplating doing a VG30ET swap into one of those, as well as an auto-manual conversion. But M30's are still a bit pricey. That would be a fun car. A definite sleeper.

Hey Movingviolation240, BuudWeizErr,

I have a 1991 M30 convertible which I absolutely love (i.e. I wouldn't trade it for my fiancee's 2000 328i), except for the power. I've been looking for ways to enhance the VG30E, but it seems as if the only way to get any real performance would be to do an engine swap.

First, while I have done a fair amount of research, I freely admit that I have ZERO experience fixing/installing engines, so I would appreciate any advice you guys might be able to give me. I do however have one VERY rare FSM!

The M30 is a Leopard outfitted with left hand drive and a US legal VG30E used in the 3rd gen (?) Max and the z31. The Japanese F31 Leopard came with a 2.0 v6, JDM VG30DE or JDM VG30DET (single turbo, DOHC; not sent to the US, and more powerful than the VG30DETT used in the z32). If anyone care, as far as suspension goes, aftermarket parts for the Stanza a.k.a. Skyline R31 will fit the M30, and aftermarket exhaust systems are rumored to as well based on some japanese sites I've browsed. But my japanese sucks.

So I'm trying to figure out what might be the most reasonable and economical method of getting a street worthy, decent gas mileage, never to be raced, high torque, 225-275 hp setup. A JDM VG30ET would likely fit, but US emissions (EGR) may be a problem (apparently the AIC could probably be bypassed or disabled without too much trouble). A JDM VG30DET would definitely fill the performance bill, but I would *guess* that emissions would be a problem for the same reasons?

Any and all reasoned guidance and/or suggestions would be welcome. I also don't have a great idea of how much it should cost to buy the parts and have the work done, so even rough guesses would be helpful too.

Thanks!

wouldn't the Z32 VG30DETT fit as well? also couldn't you convert to manual with a Z32 5speed.

the M30s are rare though. ive only seen a few and they were all back east.

lots of intinitis in NY. especially J30s and Qs.

pretty much no infinitis out here (BFE wyoming)

I really don't know whether it would be more economical to go with a US VG30DETT, or to try to fit an upgraded VG30ET. I'm just fine with the automatic though. It's given me no trouble (so far) and it should handle up to 225-250hp without trouble, especially if I put in a transgo upgrade.

I know a guy in Lincoln who has several of these(He is a used car wholesaler). Not a bad looking car, but has several expensive bits (Sonar Suspension, complex ABS system, weird transmission, ect). Several are in various states of disrepair. If anyone in the midwest area (namely close to Lincoln Nebraska) is interested, I can get a package deal for 3 of these cars for under $2,500. Car #1 is a rough driver, needs paint, interior detail, rims are all chewed up, ect. Car #2 is a 66K Actual mile silver car, BBS rims, basically near perfect EXCEPT it had an injector fire, burned up the harness, fuel rail, injectors, ect, damaged the paint on the hood. Car #3 is a parts car, missing the interior, door glass, ect. Bad transmission, but good motor. Could make 2 decent cars out of the 3. I was offered this deal, but I have no real interest in messing with them as I have to many projects as it is.

I can see that I am not alone in having given some thought to doing a z31T swap, or possibly a z32 TT swap with one of these cars. The problem that I see is that they are heavy, don't handle particularily well, have that odd sonar supension, ect. Plus, as previously stated, they all are automatics, and thus would require swaping in a manual, more than likely using z31 clutch components. It would be something different, I'll give you that.

Still, I would have no qualms with driving a Tri-coat Pearl white M30 Convertible. That is a pretty car.

Apparently, when Rex and Paul tried putting the VG30ET into Rex's M30, the steering column hits the turbo. Much like the RB26DETT problem in a LHD silvia. I guess they are trying to figure something out for that.

No I haven't tried. I was just commenting on how rare the m30 was.
