I had a brand new K&N cone style filter laying around from another car I had. So I bought the MAF adapter and just slid the filter onto that. I was getting anywhere from 35-38 mpg's before. After the new install, Im getting about 32-35 mpg's. Is that normal? The car does sound a bit more throaty after about 3k rpm's. Maybe my driving style has changed, I hold it in gear a tad longer just to hear the beast roar to life LOL.

It's probably a matter of driving style and conditions. You should actually get slightly better mileage because of the better intake efficiency.

It may take some time for the ECU to learn the air intake changes.

Any idea how long? Ive driven probably just shy of 300 miles since the filter change. What should I do with the factory sensor that plugged into the lower tube? I just shoved it in the hole that the original intake came from. I wanted to put it inside the K&N, but I couldnt get it to reach.

That could also be part of the problem, though the IAT sensor should be reading roughly what your intake temp is anyway. I'm not sure what most people do, I'll look around and see if I can dig up any info.

Although from you described about the sensor it could be throwing the ecu off, is it possible for you to take any pics of the setup now? I think that might help out a ton.

I dont have a digi camera, but santa is coming All I did was remove the entire filter box, and the tube that sat behind the headlight. In place of that I put in an eBay MAF adapter, and a cone filter. Now the filter sits directly behind the battery. I left the factory box that mounts behind the front bumper. I have the sensor stuffed in there. The sensor wont reach back up to the filter, unless I trace it back and try and rerun the wire.

If where is the sensitive part of the sensor? You mentioned plugging it in some hole. If it's one of the ones in the fenderwell, for instance, you'll be reading colder air than you're actually taking in and losing MPG.

Most just zip tie that sensor out of the way so it doesn't dangle around.

Exactly, its dangling inside the factory duct work that goes down behind the bumper. Maybe I should zip tie it up as close to the cone filter as possible. Then it would be readig the same air as the fillter is getting.

Possibly, it's definitely a interesting problem though cause everyone I've known usually just had the sensor as you do and never had any type of MPG loss or power loss.
