this is the link to my last thread about the problem i am experiencing with my 2000 Maxima SE.

i came here b/c i have a question for NICO's awesome online mechanics...so here it goes.
I've had a shacking problem during acceleration and braking for a long time now, close to 8 months. i've replaced the struts, isolator caps, strut boots and bump stops, front right wheel bearing, rotors, pads, brake lines, passenger side axle(b/c the boot split and gravel got inside), AND LASTLY the driver side axle(because the boot was about to split and it had 155K on it).
when i ordered the driver side axle i tried to install, but it didn't seat correctly. The snap ring did clip in, but there was 1/4" left to go....i thought hmmmmmmm.....so i got a small 2x4 and a hammer and tried to tap it in, but it didn't go in any farther. Soon after i took it out an measured the input shaft, and it was 1/4" longer than my stock. After realizing that I tried to install an axle for a manual transmission, i sent it back and reordered the automatic transmission axle. It went in easy. However, the shaking was more prominent after i installed the new driver side axle. I slid back under the car and tried to find anything that was loose....much to my dismay, the driverside axle is loose(the part that goes into the transmission) and moves around a little. It seems to me that the inside sleeve must be worn, or slipped out of place.
My question is: Is this an easy fix, or a hard fix...and what should I replace? I have to drive 400 miles to Phoenix on friday, and HAVE to get this fixed before I drive that far.
also, is this as easy as taking out the passenger side axle, sliding a steel pipe through and tapping the sleeve or bearing back into place or must I remove the transmission?
thank you SOOOO much in advance for all of your help with my Maxima. U tell me what i should do, and i'll do it
thanks again, Devin
