Hey Guys,

I'm looking into purchasing a 95-99 Maxima, as they seem to fit my price range for a daily driver. ($5,000 or so to play with)

While I dont plan to modify this car, I may do a few bolt-ons..

I'm leaning towards an Auto since I drive about 100 miles/day....usually close to 2 hours a day in stop and go traffic.

I have been told the 95-96's had IRS, and the 97-98's were solid axle...Is this true?

And what year models should I consider in that chassis series...

Thanks,

Chris

All 95 and up models have the twist beam rear suspension.

The differences between the models are pretty minimal, mostly creature comforts. Just find one that has been well maintained, and you should be ok.

I happened to run across this yesterday. $4300 for a 95 with only 77k miles, near Lexington KY. That has to be like the deal of the year. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/...st=54

run the VIN with a local dealer to find out the computer map. for instance "GXE-L" is mapped for power. check it out.

Sad to say, most dealers won't know what you mean about maped for power. I was trying to get my timing advanced to 17*BTDC, and had to come back with detailed instructions as to which screens to go to, and what to do with the Consult II tool. This was their head tech too.

well, if our nissan guys down here were that lost, they'd be fired. i live in nissan country (about 10 minutes from the Smyrna TN plant.), but i have ran into some of the nissan delivery guys who wouldn't know a nissan if they saw it. well, maybe that's a little extreme, but not too far off point.

5k will get you a nice 4th gen.I paid $400 for my 96 I30 earlier this yearstay away from the 99s as there have been reports of immobilizer and coil issues on the 99s95 is an OBDI system with OBDII codes and port97 had some changes to the tail lights and grillother than those things they didn't change all that much

Personally I'd go with an I30, since you get a few more luxury touches for the same basic price, and the option of an LSD the 4th gen max in the US all came LSDless from the factory, you'd have to go back to a 92-94 SE to get an LSD and an IRS :wall:
