Looking at a 04 Spec V, some questions about this car and motor.

Has about 114k on the clock, needs a bit of body work but otherwise ran fine before the fender bender.

I read about butterfly valve bolts and oil consumption issues - were the precat failures all before the 04 models? Is there anything else I should look for?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm combing through the archives as I need info quick.

all 2002-2006 specs had potential for problems with the precat and butterflies.ask the dealer/seller if they would be willing to do a compression test and/or oil analysis for you. as for the butterflies, just worry about that if/when you buy the car.

It has gone into a dealership near me for it's warranty work. Rear brakes, a cd player malfunction, a recall to have the ECU reprogrammed.

The owner said he's never had a problem, and the car can be had for pretty cheap since it needs some body work. I could just get it, rip the exhaust manifold off and install a header and then tighten the butterfly screws.

thats the way to go. get the stock header off of there asap.
