my father in law had to get rid of it because it was an eyesore in his parking lot of a driveway. if you can imagine half a dozen late model vehicles parked around this thing...the old sesame street "one of these things does not belong here" should immediately come to mind. on top of that, hoa and momma in law were complaining, so he gave it to me.

for the above reasons, i dubbed it "project reject".

positives...it runs and the body is in good shape.
negatives...the craptastic phone pics don't show it, but it needs a lot of work.

popping the hood was like opening a time capsule. it's been a long time since i played with a ka24e. the picture doesn't show it, but there's lots of evidence of tiny critters living in engine bay.

Image

evidence of a bad water pump.

Image

almost 300k on the ticker, yet she almost purs like a kitten.

new windshield, water pump, tune up, tail light and turn signals are top priority. updates coming soon...

Welcome home!

Even a beat-to-hell old Hardbody is cool. Great trucks (I'll build one someday).

Cool tractor. I wish I had a tach--no real need, just cool to look at. I don't like the factory intake tubing and I removed the resonator, ducting, and lid; and tightened down the wing nuts on a k&n stock style filter, but a stock one would have worked fine. It is louder, slightly better looking, and all around better imo.

(19 month edit: I eventually grew up and put the stock intake tubing back on, seeing as how having it removed wasn't: what I said it was, what I thought it was, or what I wished it was (the latter being an S13 manifold). I think my OBD2 resonator box also added a few lb/ft of low end torque and took away nothing else. -SeanG-)

It's basically a plastic OEM CAI. I am keeping mine for now.

What size tires are on that truck?

i yanked the water pump off sunday. since i had to remove stuff to get to the pump, i decided to start removing all the unecessary crap from the engine bay and gameplan how i was going to relocate/reroute whatever was left.

i pulled the battery and rubber tray it was sitting on and found this...

Image

underneath...

Image

...and yes, that wire was the battery tie down.

when i get more time, i'll strip down the front end to make sure there are no other surprises.

adding a trip to the body shop to the list.

holy 19 month thread bump batman!!!

finally got some spare time, so i decided to get knee deep in this project.

almost done gutting the interior...

Image

after a good cleaning, i'm thinking about spraying the interior with rattle can bedliner.

and i can't wait to dig thru this train wreck of a mess...

Image

i'm only keeping the bare bones necessities. everything else is going in the trash.

making progress...it wasn't warm enough outside to finish, but i was able to clean and prep the cab for primer and spray on bedliner. hit the back half of the cab with rustoleum rusty metal primer. there were no serious rust issues, but all the grit and grime that was cleaned out hid a lot of bare metal scratches with light surface rust.

going to prep the pedals and miscellaneous dash brackets next...

Image

also found some toyota wheels on craigslist. i hope to nab them at first light.

Judging by the buckled inner fender I assume this truck took a hit to the right front at one time?
