I am getting ready to rebuild my motor and looking into some insight on what other KA's guys have rebuilt there motor with and what worked best for them. ex. did you buy a kit? piece it together? what made you go with the parts you got? thanks any input appreciated! also I am not looking to boost it, maybe some spray though.

I am rebilding mine rite now i got a kit off ebay like 50$ but the head gasket looks chep so i got a better one. I'd pull the moter out rip it down to just the block then take the block to a shop or you can do it all your self but for me its just ezer to have them do all the specks on it. I had them bor it 50 over and new pistons. Your pistons my bee in good shape and dont need it. If you got the time to do it, do it rite. I did not have all the cash to get it dun at one time so one pay day i got the pistons next i got it bored and honed and so on. All tho i did get a chep gasket set any part of it that looked cheep i swaped out with good parts and replaced evry thing. One thing you dont want to do is go cheep get new head bolts dont reues the oldones you can but what 35 more$$ or get arp studs. For a cool look you can get high temp paint and paint your moter to match your car i am not trying to show off just geving you ideas you can have fun wail your droping lots of cash on your car and yes it will be a lot even if you go cheep your looking at 400 min i am over 800 in mine and almost dun. If your car is not a dayley driver you can paint the block high heat paint maybe 40$ worth and some colerd vaucum hoses 15$ from summit racing and your on your way to having a beter looking moter. Well i hope i have helped you out.

built mine ,had the head checked and did valve seeals, went 20 over on the block , go no more than that as water jackets get really close, arias pistons, clevite bearings and arp 10mm head studs, got an aftermarket t chain also, go ahead and get an oil pump ,maybe from ams ,and the t chain from them also.

man your dohc looks good.I wish i could of goten some arp studs for mine but i'm not runing high hp so i think i will b fine with fel pro head bolts one other thaing wail your doing all this work i'd put in a new trans filter and gasket or at lest some new fluid. you want to and spray so track down some arp head studs get your head worked over i had mine dun at napa for 149 it did not need any extra work thank god evry thing on my car was bad get cilinders cheked for taper if you need new pistons get your block bored it will give you a few hp. if your going to stay under 200hp i would not get forged pistons ther not needed. one thing you need to keep in mind is if you take somting off are you going to need it like hoses belts ext... I am replaceing all my hoses and belts the only thing that has not ben swaped is the crank block its self and conecting rods the way i fill is why put 500 in to a 19 yr old carand put back on a 19 yr old hoes that will go bad in 1 yr and i have to replace it.(but keep in mind that swaping evry thing hoses belts dist. cap and so on has added 150$ and a month and a half to my dead line.

what do you have dohc or sohc what yr

i rebuild my first ka24e and was easy. but before you attempt to do this you must read, read, read, read and read some more. I had the block cleaned, rebored, camshaft regrounded with new seals on hand, i used the same rods but changed the pistons, new everything internal except for the block crank and head.

i spend approx. 280 for all the work plus seals and pistons. carquest machine shop did the work in fayetteville nc. then I put everything together according to the book. everything OEM of course, not looking for more power but this is my tes to my skills.

i bought the engine at the junk yard, it ran before. for 100. the head got the valves placed and machined and i put the parts back together to include seals, same camshaft since it was still good.

the gaskets from a kit and hubblers engine kits sells the kits for good prices, but you can go more expensive if you like such as eagle kits. I cleaned and painted with high temp paint to match the car and also painted the cover, installed new timing chain then i primed the engine with oil and then i had to deploy and never got it to install and start, so i used slick 50 to lubricate the head and wrapped it with a wrapping plastic and sealed everything and placed it in a plastic bag and sealed it again. i cant wait to come home in march to install it and crank it up.

I plan to open it up again and check the cylinders for surface rust. if I did my homework right it shouuld be fine and run, i plan to rebuild all four engines of my cars. stock for now but at least one will get a conversion so sr20det
