i rebuild my first ka24e and was easy. but before you attempt to do this you must read, read, read, read and read some more. I had the block cleaned, rebored, camshaft regrounded with new seals on hand, i used the same rods but changed the pistons, new everything internal except for the block crank and head.
i spend approx. 280 for all the work plus seals and pistons. carquest machine shop did the work in fayetteville nc. then I put everything together according to the book. everything OEM of course, not looking for more power but this is my tes to my skills.
i bought the engine at the junk yard, it ran before. for 100. the head got the valves placed and machined and i put the parts back together to include seals, same camshaft since it was still good.
the gaskets from a kit and hubblers engine kits sells the kits for good prices, but you can go more expensive if you like such as eagle kits. I cleaned and painted with high temp paint to match the car and also painted the cover, installed new timing chain then i primed the engine with oil and then i had to deploy and never got it to install and start, so i used slick 50 to lubricate the head and wrapped it with a wrapping plastic and sealed everything and placed it in a plastic bag and sealed it again. i cant wait to come home in march to install it and crank it up.
I plan to open it up again and check the cylinders for surface rust. if I did my homework right it shouuld be fine and run, i plan to rebuild all four engines of my cars. stock for now but at least one will get a conversion so sr20det
