You know how I told y'all that I mounted my radar detector above my mirror with Velcro? Over time and with the summer heat, the adhesive had been melting and it had slid down the windshield about an inch. That was going to be one of my projects this weekend, taking it all down..cleaning it..remounting it.

Ok the funny part, my friend and I were going to lunch and the whole thing came flying off the windshield and into her lap. :chuckle: Scared the crap outta her.

It is really a good thing she was sitting there. A little melted adhesive got on the seatbelt. It might have gotten all over my seat if she hadn't been there to catch it.

Needless to say, it all got cleaned up and remounted last night. Becki doesn't leave home without a radar detector! :nono:

Better than the unit falling onto the dash. I would have that happen all the time in other cars. If mine now get where one of the suction cups does not wanna stick, I just replace them both. At some point I will get a hard mount but will have to do a custom config as I don't want to lose the mute button which is currently on the cig lighter power plug.

Oh yeah, it could have been a lot worse. I love that r/d. I know it isn't the newest and fanciest, but it is small and fits wherever I want it and I haven't gotten a speeding ticket. I would have hated if it broke because Escort doesn't make that model anymore. I would have also hated adhesive getting on my seat! :ohno:

If only I didn't live in the only state in the union where they're illegal. I can drive with a gun, but not a radar detector.

That is right. I remember that from when I lived there. If I remember correctly, not only would they take your detector it was a $250 fine. If you would mount one like I do they would never see it.

You have a gun....shoot the cop. :naughty: j/k

They have the Spectre--don't have to see it if it's on. And even if it's off, if they find out about it and it's not locked in the trunk, bad news.

I've heard that if you shoot a cop, they take away your carry permit. Don't want that.

Good one told by a golf buddy recently:

Code: Select all

The Texas Highway Patrol recently pulled over a woman on I35 near Dallas.
When the officer stepped up to the driver's window in the Lexus, the woman
handed him her drivers license and her concealed carry permit.

He said, "Are there any weapons in the car, ma'am".

"Yes, officer" she answered, "There's a .38 snub in my purse, a Glock 17
in a quick-release under the seat, and a M1911 .45 in the glove
compartment".

"Good lord, ma'am!" the startled cop said, "What are you
afraid of?".

"Absolutely nothing", she replied.

What detector do you have that you love? I buy a new one appx every 5 years. Just bought a new one and the "old" one replaced my prior "old one" in the wife's car.

Like I said earlier, they don't make my exact model anymore. I have had mine for at least 7 years. This is like hubbies. It does well. He has gotten tickets, but it is because he forgot to turn it on.

Ah, solo 2. I was a Bel guy for a long time (745STi and Vector 985) and I've swapped to Escort (owned by Bel). We have a 8500 x50 in the sedan and I have the new 9500ix in the coupe which has the GPS setup, builds a falsing database, and you can upload with speed camera locations/speed traps and updates online.

I thought about a V1 but decided to stay with an equal competitor. :)

Oh, Virginia.

I heard a story about a guy traveling through VA from another state, he had his detector custom-built into his dash, and got pulled... the cop ripped it out of the dash right there on the side of the highway. Although, you know how stories go, so I have no idea how true this one is. Buuuut... if that had been my car, and I didn't live in VA, I'd be FURIOUS.

I would have told him to hold his horses and called a roll-back to tow my car out of his state.
