The 240 works because the roof is floating on lots of dark glass, so it makes sense to keep the roof dark as well. A few cars are like that (though as you pointed out, the AnalProbe doesn't really work because it has SO MUCH ROOF for a little hatchback.

(RE: Nala) In one FB post he says he hit a semi, in another post he said a garbage truck ran a stop sign. I'm pretty sure if a semi hit him there would be a lot more damage than that. Also, in true Nala fashion, his "friends" on FB are giving him s*** and calling him a liar. :chuckle:

Morning jerkies! I can see him hitting a semi and causing that kind of damage, although no crumpling of the hood is odd, but had a garbage truck blew a sign and nailed him, the front of that truck would be a mangled mess structurally.

re: black roofs; I like them. Hell, I even liked it on the probe. 2 of my S13's were that way though (one red, one white), so maybe I'm a bit partial.

re:Nala; My very first thought when I saw the pic was, "He pulled out in front of somebody." He would do that, and then lie about it. Man that guy fails at life.

Funny you say morning and s***, because this morning my alarm went off, and apparently that was the "code brown" alarm in my bowels because it was a photo finish to the bathroom. So yeah, I got to start out my day like that.

The worst is taking a s*** right after you get out of the shower. That ruins my day WAY more quickly than right when I wake up.

Absolutely... I got it before the shower, so all was good in the universe.

Bart, cheap beer doesn't do that to me... Although, it's still heeded advice not to drink cheap beer...... OTOH I'll take a free beer any day of the week.. :)

match.com deal seems to be working out pretty well. I've got about 2 gals I'm talking to, all well educated (same or more than me), attractive, and they seem to align pretty well with my beliefs. Hopefully in the next couple weeks I can go on some dates. Then it will be a tough decision between the tall blonde w/ an MBA or the shorter busty chemical engineer... :)

DUDE! That's an awesome selection to work with! Glad that its working out for you so far, so well. Just remember- don't let those website messages go on more than 5-6 conversations, its time to give 'em your number or ask to call them since ya'll are writing so much! Don't want them to lose interest or be only internet daters. I prefer to get their number because you're more in control and you'll truly find out if they're interested in carrying your good vibrations forwards. Gotta remember, match is just a way to meet people, but I'm preaching to the choir here and just blabbin', I'm just excited for you.
Thinking back, I didn't take my own advice. Call Me Maybe was still popular, so I made up my own words to the chorus and I gave Lindsey my number. In retrospect, it could've gone really bad, (I regretted it as soon as the 'sent' button was clicked) but she actually liked it and it was an excellent way to start the conversation. But I was pretty damned sure she was interested in talking to me and called within 10 minutes. Now we're moving in together in July.

Yep.. one of them, she gave me her number after chatting on there for a couple days, she's been working second shift lately so only been able to talk via text. The other one I haven't talked to a bunch yet but seems interested and interesting, so we'll see.

Regardless, I probably wouldn't have done it if you hadn't suggested it, so I owe you one... :)

Maybe ya'll can help me. The convertible thread I posted earlier isn't so much a "what car should I buy" but really just getting various opinions from everyone and why they like each vehicle.

I'm torn on getting a different car.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be owning the Miata for a while to come. The current plan is to replace the suspension and bushings and drive the wheels off the Miata until the engine fails or it gets hit (hopefully not the latter) and then buy something else; enter the thread about NC MX5's, S2K's, and 370's, maybe even a Z4 'vert or C5 'vert.

On the other hand, the Miata is already paid for, costs nothing to maintain, is in good shape overall, still has loads of style and will continue to as it ages gracefully. Its also super easy to replace the engine with a high horsepower, built version. I know we’re not supposed to look at it in dollar sense, but the car has ALL of the necessary upgrades and supporting mods for a built engine (stand alone & map, injectors, fuel pump, etc) its hard to just let that merchandise and time investment go when its cheaper to replace & build and engine than it is to buy a different car. Though, a C5 vert sounds sooooooo good sometimes.

The only reason I’m even considering what to do is because the stupid horsepower and handling bug has bit me. HARD. I really, really like the car and enjoy driving the hell out of it most days, but after taking so many test runs in other cars at Carlisle, its hard to not want to buy and own more vehicles just for the sake of having owned and enjoyed them.

Life isn't going to get much in the way of future ownership so it isn't much of a concern. I plan to have no offspring, and after student loans are paid off, can afford a mortgage, fun toys, and travel the world comfortably.

Any advice from you guys?

If you can afford it, then buy what you want. The horsepower and handling bug has bit me numerous times, but until I have proper funding, I can't pull the trigger. I'm not getting another line of credit just to get a toy right now.

I have been through the "i'm going to build it and replace everything" route many, many times. After a while it gets old, because things come up, there's not enough time, or I don't want to spend the money, ect, ect, ect. I have learned with past experience that I prefer to have something I can enjoy driving right now, rather than something I know has a long to-do list with it. It's easier when you have a less hectic life, but still, given the choice i'd rather just buy what I want than try to make what I have into what I want.

I find modding (sometimes even repairing) the car fun, and thankfully the Miata is cheap to do both. However, the best part is that it isn't my daily driver. If it breaks, f*** it, there are other cars in the driveway while I get around to researching and repairing whatever is wrong.

Otherwise I completely agree with your notation of having something that works every time, all the time; especially if it was designed to work that way from the start.

This will probably be the last 'old' car I buy and modify. Its fun, reliable, and works, but the thought of owning a car that you have to do nothing to in order to improve its usefulness is incredibly appealing.

Honestly I think you ought to do what you said, and keep the Miata until you can't drive it anymore for whatever reason. I think once that happens (that you have to retire the Miata), then you should consider what to do. The nice thing about your Miata is that it's in decent shape, but it's not *perfect*, so if you get a few rock chips or door dings it's not really that big of a deal.

I think your Miata is just as fun to drive as my M, but a different kind of fun.

I can tell you from experience what happens when you have more than one fun car. Usually the new fun car gets driven a lot and the old fun car sits. Every once in a while you'll hop in it and say to yourself, "Man! This thing is fun! I should drive this more often.", then it sits again.

Finish the Miata build and enjoy it for a while. Get a built motor. Enjoy it longer. Miata's are ALWAYS going to be a fun, cool car, regardless of the age.

^^ sound advice, thank you. In about 2 years it'll qualify as a classic and it'll finally have some value so I could mod it and not worry about losing my investments. Honestly, that's what stops me from coil overs and other suspension parts.

The lead character in Looper drives a minty first gen Miata many years in the future. Its pretty sweet. Even under the car cover, I knew exactly what it was and got excited.
