huh, you've crashed every single car you've ever owned. what makes you think you have the skill to drive a high-powered RWD car without planting it into a guardrail or a ditch?

:lolling: Yeah you may want to stick to a Volvo in that case dude.

Also - $200 set of rims for the Five Hundred:

And yes, it still doesn't fix the fact that it's a Five Hundred, but it's one step better at least ;)

Wheels*

I kinda like the blandmobile wheels for it. These belong on the Mustang that Brando is gonna put in the bottom of a ravine.

Well i'm keeping both sets. The new ones won't be going on until spring anyways, but if I don't like how they look i'll save them for the next project I pick up. At $200, I couldn't say no since I love that style Mustang wheel.

^Exactly. It's never going to be sexy anyways, but I didn't buy it for that. I miss the looks of the Maxima, but this thing is a hell of a lot more reliable and enjoyable to drive.

GOD DAMMIT. Why the f*** do FWD failmobiles* share the Mustang's lug pattern while my V8 sport sedan does not?! A set of Mustang wheels is exactly what the LS needs.

Protégés get 5x114.3. FiveHundreds get 5X114.3. LS gets 5x108. OH GOOD I CAN RUN CONTOUR WHEELS!

*The Five Hundred is actually not a failmobile. But it sounds more angry that way.

Good call on the Mustang wheels. Thats a helluva price!
I added an '07 Suby Legacy to my stable this weekend. Thread coming later tonight when I can host my pictures.
Need to work on an epic CL ad for the old Corolla. I'll post my draft and some photos of that s*** here so you guys can critique and make some suggestions!

Also, mornin'!

Morning Ben.

Goddamned left the lights on in the suby and killed the battery.
Went to put the jumpers back in the trunk and the f*** trunk release doesn't do a damn thing to pop the trunk. This wouldn't be a problem if the car had a FOB, or a key hole, but it lacks BOTH!

Do you have any suggestions as to how to fix it?
If I pull on the lever, I hear a slight noise, but not the 'thunk' one is used to hearing.

Most definitely.
What i'm most aggravated about is that the sales person didn't mention it. I'm in touch with the dealer and while I stated that I know I bought a used car and it will have issues, I'm disppointed that something this important wasn't pointed out to me. Their suggestion was 'pull harder.' If I pulled any harder I'd be breaking the plastic handle. Sheesh.

I'd take it back in park it longways in their lot, blocking cars in. Lock it, go inside and tell them to fix the damn thing. Tell them you're taking the keys with you, so either they can pay a locksmith, tow truck, or get the truck open and fix it. Their choice. You'll be back to move it when it's fixed.

So you can't even get in the trunk from the back seat? If so then that's BS. The Maxima was like that and I HATED it. If I can't fold down the back seat in a sedan, it's useless to me.

I can only get in there if I fold it down. The emergency handle works.
However, the pull handle does not.
So far this is what I've done.
- opened the trunk from inside.
- inspected how the emergency handle works. Saw that it pushed on the ball retainer/clip actuator thing which moves the latch.
- There is a little pin switch thing that moves on the latch assembly, but I can not find its use. I think it would normally disable the interior pull handle. However, it does not stay in place or in any 'locked' position and I do not think it is supposed to do anything else.
- I can pull on the exposed part of the cable to make it work (though this is too difficult to do inside of the car when it is latched). This would normally lead me to believe that the cable is not broken/stretched.
- If I prop up the pull handle, I can see that it is pulling on the ball retainer/clip actuator thing which moves the latch. It seems to be at full pull. Additionally, when I use a friend to pull on and hold the lever inside the car with the trunk open, I can see that the retainer/clip thing is at full pull. This is confirmed because when I move the emergency handle, it still has a little bit of travel left before hitting the latch actuator while it is being pulled from inside. This cancels out my idea of being a broken or stretched cable.
- I traced some of the inner workings of the trunk to those black bars that run from the curved support arms on either side of the trunk and flopped them the opposite way.
This seemed to help, however, the only way it would open the trunk would be with a really, really quick snap of the lever. And this does not work every time. 40% at best.

It will open, but isn't working 100% of the time.

Is it possible that the trunk is too heavy? I'm used to hearing cars make a 'thunk' or obvious release sound of the latch. Even when I am successful in 'snapping' the latch back quickly, there is no sound of confirmation.

Any ideas?

Make sure the little U bracket that slides into the latch isn't bent out a little on the trunk lid. If it has any resistance sliding into place, then tap it lightly with a hammer to put it back in place.

Also, it may have to be a 2-man job (just like the Sentra is during cold weather). See if pulling on the lid at the same time the handle is being pulled works?

I was just thinking that too, Dave. On my 2+2 the latch was out of adjustment.

I'm sure it has a place on wet roads, but on ice all it does is continue sliding even after you're WAY off the brake. I need more room to safely evaluate if throttle can overcome the slide, but I highly doubt it'll make a difference. Once they're locked up and pulsing, I don't know what stops them. Traction? No traction? The side of the F150 next to you?
