ok, ive read something about how you can boost hp by making the fuel mixture leaner, advancing your timing and running premium. running premium is straight forward, and i can make it leaner by modifying the AIT, but how do i advance my timing? do i turn the distributor? if so, what direction, and how much etc...

you put a resistor in where it used to be. i gotta do a bit of research before i figure out how much resistance to put in. as for the distributor, its round!!! what way is towards the front? clockwise or counter clockwise? and how many degrees?

i think this is what im gonna do. im gonna replace the AIT sensor with a variable resistor, and put one of those $8 indoor/outdoor thermometers by the filter, and have a chart in the cab to tell me what to set the resistance to to make it run best, (nice and lean). the one thing im hung up on is advancing the timing by turning the distributor. it makes me a little nervous, cause im way too poor to replace anything if i ***** it up. can someone tell me exactly what to do?

so if i want to make it run leaner, i fool it into thinking the air is hotter right?

Yep, but what mayham is saying is that your EGT's are gonna be higher. if they get too high on premium gas, you'll get knock no good. Also if they get too high, you can blow shiz up or melt a piston.

It's like turbo and nitrous, you're cool until you get greedy and can't supply the right amount of fuel.

so how do i know how lean is too lean? do i have to get an air/fuel ratio meter? or an EGT meter?
