Leaking Oil and Rumbling Noise

My mom owns a 2004 Maxima 3.5 SL with 215K miles. The car is leaking oil to the point where she has to put a quart in every couple of days. I'm assuming the rumbling noise is a result of the lack of oil in the engine. Any idea why the car would be leaking so much oil? Any quick fixes?

It depends on where it's leaking oil. Is there oil on the block or in the engine area? Under the car? Does it smoke badly?
