I am getting ready to start my first engine built I want to stay N/A and keep the L28 i was just wondering what head, pistons, cam ext. i should use to keep it reliable but still have enough power to be fun i know the tag on the 280's say 170hp. but i have heard they are only 135hp. and i would like to try to get as much as i can out of it. I am not affraid of a little work or time. i am in no hurry so money is not to big of an object but i don't want some $15k L28. anyway any and all help is appreciated.

the best bang for the buck build IMHO would be a flat top F54 block, N24 Head, L7 cam, Tripple Webbers, and a Header, the carbs being the largest single expense used sets go from $500-$800, I think you can still get them new for around $1300

this is a common setup and tends to get in the 180-200 whp range, if you want more, you have lots of choices, you can do a 3.1 stroker, you can do a race fuel only 14:1 build, you can retain the stock stroke and run 240 rods with custom pistons for a more favorable rod angle, full balance and blueprint etc, the high cr and stroker builds to end to land in the 250 whp range with reports of high end 10k builds getting as much as 300 whp!

also if you can find them Nissan motosport used to make a dometop piston, they were cast and not to spendy, a bud located a used set for only a couple hundred bucks

well I am about to sell my LD crank and 9mm 240 rods, as for pistons I recomend ordering wiesco's through summit, you get the best deal adn they make them to your spec, for less than most off the shelf pistons, less than $700 you get pistons, rings and pins, importperformance parts sells basic rebuild kits, might be worth talking to the shop you want to do your boring, they usually have good prices on quality rebuild kits
