finalgear, you used maxima plugs right? if so, did u wire them up to the usdm cluster sub harness to make it plug and play? what year maxima plugs did u use and could you post what color wires go where for the maxima plug to stock cluster sub harness. thanks

im going to try and get the correct plugs from a newer maxima in the next day or so.

has anyone tackled the fuel gauge being incorrect problem? im wondering if it needs an s14 sensor for that or if you can take the stock cluster's temp gauge part and put it into the type x cluster (probably not). but i'd like to find something to make it work.

looking really good, btw finalgear.

thanks

yea i used the plug from a 95 maxima and yes i wired them up to the usdm sub harness as far as the colors go i didnt do it that way what you do is this plug the harness into the back of the cluster you will know what plug goes where it can only fit in the right socket now use the picture with the numbers on the cluster as a reference and label the wires like #24 to x5 then put them all together once you have them all labeled

well i think there might be something inside the cluster that helps it keep memory on the digital odo like a battery or some kind of chip but i never opened mine to find out you can open yours and see what you can find out.

well plug it in first and see what it says it might be close also it will read in kilometers now than apposed to miles 1.61 km in a mile 0.62 miles in a km so my cluster says 92919 so 92919 kilometer = 57737 mile thats what is on my cluster in miles

Let me know if you get anywhere with the fuel gauge. I finally drove my 240 for the first time in 3 months. Broke my leg in June. SUCKS. Still in PT but I couldn't resist taking the car out. White Comet, you have the Part number for the s14 temp sensor?

Well, I completed my install of the cluster, but I've yet to fully test it out. I am having one issue though and that's with my EGI relay. It clicks non-stop when the ignition key is set to the ACC position. Soon as I turn to the "ON" or "Start" it stops.

I double checked my wiring and even redid it just to make sure. I tested my old cluster and the relay didn't click. Anyone having similar issues?

The only part of the wiring that I think would give me this issue would be fuel related. The wiring for X8 is confusing me. I split X8 into two so that 24 and 20 were wired in. In the diagram it shows that 20 and 24 from the 240 harness is to be wired with X8. Is this correct or was it a type of some sort?

For the folks who don't have this issue how did you wire 20 and 24 to X8?

No, still haven't installed the s14 speed sensor or the temp sensor. Have yet to drive it so no need too.

Doubt not having the temp or speed sensor would make the EGI relay "click" repeatedly though.

Does your fuel gauge work properly?

I have my type x cluster hooked up and my fuel gauge does not read accurately. It moves but it is not accurate. With a full tank, the needle dos not point all the way to the top .

finalgear, can you fill up your tank and see what the fuel gauge reads? If anyone got their fuel gauge to work, please let us know!

^ if you have one laying around its worth a try, but i spoke with a service tech at my local nissan dealer and he didnt think that would help. his solution was to slightly tweak the arm that the float is attached to. i plan on trying this to see it i can dial it in

ok well now i fixed the gauge but the best way to adjust the arm on the pump is to have a full tank of gas then read the gauge then adjust the arm down a little then drop pump back in and test to see where it is repeat as necessary.

Good idea, does it read empty when it's really empty? I think that's more important :-D
