I've attempted to search this on the web and have not had any definite answer. I was wondering if having a lot of keys on your key ring can cause your ignition switch to go bad on your car. Some people have said that the chip in the key (I have a '04 G35 sedan, so I have the immobilizer chip) can go bad.

I just ask because I own a business and we have a lot of doors with different locks. Some doors are accessible to all employees, some are just to managers, some are just to open to me, plus house keys, and a flash drive. Right now I have the split up to just G keys and then the rest.

Input anyone?

The question was asked on "Click and Clack" recently. Tom and Ray agreed that the extra weight could eventually cause problems with the switch. Just passing that along.

Have two key chains, one with car/home key, the other with all your other keys.

I have heard of a heavy keychain affecting ignition switches, especially in older cars.
