I have had my 2009 G for 2.5 years now, and the other day when I got in and started the car, an indicator came on information panel (outside temp, MPG, etc) showing that battery on my key FOB was low. Based on the image it displayed, it looked like it has 25% left. Anyone else see this from time to time??

I have a second FOB that I haven't used since I bought the car, which I guess I can start to use. If I wanted to get a new battery for my primary key FOB, is that something that the dealer takes care of? Would that be something that warranty would cover or would I be paying out of pocket for (if so, what $$$ am I looking at)???

Thanks.

Happy Holidays G people

I haven't had to open mine yet, but I assume you can change it yourself, just open it with a small flat screwdriver and see what battery it takes, then go somewhere to buy it.

yeah just got that indicator like 2 weeks ago... changing the battery is easy... just pop open the fob to get to the battery. its should be no more than $4 for the battery.

I've replaced mine a couple of times since purchasing the car. In fact, gotta do it again.

Cool. I was hoping it was that easy, and not something like having to replace the FOB.

It's funny, you get so used to seeing the same old display every single day when you drive. So when I saw the different graphic it was a bit jarring at first, LOL. Hadn't seen anything like it before. At least it gives you the heads up before the FOB dies out...

Thanks for the replies

Replacing the battery is easy. Just remove the key first. I can usually get it apart using my thumb nails to pry apart a corner where they key itself is.

I do assume these are the intelligent keys that are killing batteries this quick? My standard FOB is 8 years old and don't think the battery has been replaced (though seems to be losing power recently).

I've had that light on my dash for about 2 weeks (car/fob is 2 yrs old now) and I've put the key in the charging slot for probably a total of 5 hours, but the low battery indicator keeps coming on every time I start the car. Guess I'll have to change my battery too since they apparently don't last very long.

Where is the best place to find this CR25 battery?

EDIT: Just checked my manual and it said I need to use a CR2032 which is in stock at my local Radio Shack for $5. That's where I'll go..

The FOB slot in the dash is not for charging. It's to allow you to crank the motor if your FOB battery is completely dead.

Obviously not, since it didn't. I was told when I bought the car (probably by the salesperson) that you could stick the fob in there to recharge it, but the battery itself isn't rechargeable so I'm not sure why they told me that. No biggie, I replaced it yesterday in about 60 seconds.
