My wife used the car to go to the store. When she came back and turned off the alarm/unlocked doors, she put the key fob into the ignition and it wouldn't turn on. I thought it was maybe the battery, so I had them replaced at the dealer. The car still doesn't turn and unlock the column. I had to remove the skeleton key and hold the transponder close to the ignition for the car to turn on. This seems to work but when using the original fob it does not unlock the car. Any ideas of what this issue could be? I know it has to do with the ignition but not sure the specifics of what makes the unlocking pin pop out and allow you to turn the key and fire up the engine.

Is there a battery in your fob that needs to be replaced?

The dealer replaced the key fob battery and made sure the transponder magnet was intact. I checked the fuses in all 3 areas of the vehicle and they are all fine. It only starts with the skeleton key and holding the transponder next to the ignition. Taking it to the dealership to see if they can figure out what's wrong with it.

It ended being an issue with an aftermarket alarm system hard wired into the main harness under the dash. The dealer charged me 3 hours of labor to uninstall it. Once the removed it the car works perfect.
