like it says is it a straight swap? I have tried to find the info on this and all i can find is that if you use the kae pistons it increases the compression on the de motor. I also found that the earlier motors came with forged rods and the e motors not only had forged rods but also forged pistons. can anyone verify this? What i am wondering is i have a kade motor in my car now that i spun a rod bearing in. and i have access to a good kae motor with a blown head gasket. What i want to know can i put the crank rods and pistons from the e motor in my de (obviously with new seals and bearings and honing it) will it straight bolt in? and what kind of compression will it be running then? i eventually plan to go big for boost to hit the 400 mark but have not finished peicing together my stuff and want my car back on the road and at the track. please help me out.. or maybe you can guide me to where i can find out this info.. thanks

The only difference is compression ratio on the bottom end. Put your dohc head on the good bottom end. Pistons and rods are not forged.

so i could actually put my dohc head on a sohc motor and it will work just like my current motor setup but be dohc and have higher compression? what about tuning can i use my stock ecu? what is needed to do this? just a good top end and a good bottom end from each?

ok.. after alot of research and alot of phone calls.. i found out that the block, crank, and rods are the same in a de vs an e motor.. so im going to try to swap the heads any kind of help on what exactly i need to swap to make it work and tunning stuff i might need to do to the car with the higher compression would be very appreciated...

Blocks differ from what I remember, and they are not forged. Most just swap pistons, but KA-e are hard to comeby that arent dead anymore.

yeah from what i have been able to find they are different but the hed bolts right up.. it supposedly is the timing cover that doesnt match up.. but supposedly if you have a frontier upper cover it mates to the lower timing cover of the sohc.. and i just happen to have one..lol.. so im gonna try it..

I have built a ka-e with a de head before. The timing chains and tenisors are different. I had to machine some parts for this. It is much easier to put the ka-e rotating assembly in the de block. The only thing different I remember is the ka-e crank has (3) key ways. The de has (2) so you need to make a spacer so the bolt will tighten up the balancer on the crank.

but then i would have to re-ring it , hone the block, and put new bearings in the crank/rod I mean at that point i might as well just rebuild my motor now.. I am trying to do this without any money or as little as possible and still give me a de block to keep on the side to build up slowly for boost.. how hard were the spcers to make for the tensioners? do you have any pics?
