Okay so I bought a Sileighty a month or so ago with a KA24E with 105K original miles and its always had a little put-put sound from what I was told was the EGR tube. It always goes away when the engine is warmed up so I drive the car like a grandma until its gone.

Today I did the same and when the put-put was gone I noticed a terrible tick tick tick tick tick tick tick. I noticed the sound even at highway speeds so I pulled over and popped the hood. It was pretty loud and it was constant.

I said phuck it. I turned around and went home and when I got it back on the highway the sound was gone. I pulled over again and popped the hood. No more tick tick tick tick tick. WTF?

I dont know what caused that sound or why it came and went. Anyone have any ideas?

I had a sound like this in my car, at first I thought it was noisy valves or lifter. Not sure if its the same for you but turns out my exhaust manifold bolts were broken off, which created an exhaust leak (tick tick sound). After a while the engine heated up well enough for the metal to expand and stop the exhaust leak and noise. Sounds like it might be with yours since you say the sound goes away when the engine heats up? Not sure if this will help you but always good to check!

Im fabricating a new exhaust system for my senior project so I plan on taking car of it all then. Ill start at the manifold and work back, thanks man..

The tick I was talking about was my lifters though. I got it taken care of. So now I just have the exhaust leak.
