after concluding that my CA maf was bad(car wouldn't rev past 3k rpms), I replaced it with a ka24e maf, but now the car won't run for more than a second...if I unplug the ka maf it it runs for longer, but won't really rev...it wants to die whenever I touch the throttle with or without the maf...i've triple checked the maf wiring...

anyways, I went to talk to the local CA expert and he hadn't ever heard of a ka maf working. he said that it would work on an SR, but some CAs have 8 bit ecus(as opposed to 16 bit) and the ka maf flat out won't work. Does this sound right to anyone? I guess it would make sense, as I replaced the part that was causing the problem and the problem got worse...

I'm going to try to locate a working CA maf asap, but I'd like to confirm that this is the problem first...

You can't use a KA24DE MAFS.You can use a KA24E MAFS.

There have been countless people how have used the KA-E MAFS.

8bit vs. 16bit shouldn't make a difference, but regardless, the SOHC ECU was an 8 bit, just like the CA ECU.

You've got a problem somewhere else. Have you pulled the codes from the ECU?

ok, that's what I thought, I figured it couldn't hurt to double check. I AM using a KA24E maf.

the ecu throws code 34(knock sensor)...I'm stumped...

ok, so theres just one wire coming from the knock sensor, so do I just extend that into the dash and splice it into the large white wire at pin 23? is there any need for a ground, cuz the plug has a ground wire doesn't it?

yes u do need the ground, if u dont put it then most likely the code will still show up.

so extend the wire like u said and connect it to the white one on the ecu. then extend the shield wire and ground it near the ecu. USE GOOD WIRE!!! no speaker wire or left overs.

ok, I'm confused where I run the ground wire from...theres only one wire from the knock sensor that I've connected directly to the ecu...

anyways, I don't think this is my problem as I pulled my plugs and they are fouled and covered in fuel...gonna check if I'm getting spark today after work and go from there...

Be careful when screwing with this maf crap. If you srew up this wiring, you run a risk of scarring your ecu's circuitry and your car won't crank be cranking with that ecu amymore.
