I replaced the dist. drive gear, and im pretty sure i got it right. But now it only wants to idle, the idle is pretty smooth but if i try to give it any gas it wants to die. Will it run at all if the ignition timing is ogg at all?

If the ignition timing is off it either won't idle or will idle very badly, I had an issue exactly the same as you a long time ago where it would idle fine but as soon as you hit the gas it sputters and dies. The problem was the wiring to my MAF sensor was pinched and causing weird signals when you hit the gas.

Yeah, this is what I was thinking. Im going to mess with the maf, test the timing and if all those are fine im going to look into getting a new fuel pump.

fuel pumps aren't cheap and aren't returnable once used thats why i went with a used unit because it was very cheap. if you have another vehicle to use and not in a rush to fix this one buy a new pump from ebay, its WAY cheaper.

How was it running before you replaced the gear. If it was doing well before I would suspect timing

Yeah me too, but I put the gear exactly as its shown to do in the turorial. And even after having back together I pulled it apart and tried to put it in one notch over to each side, but then it wouldnt even start.
