OK... I found a good (price) deal on a 240SX Hatch, but its got some probs... Anybody know what could cause these? Its a 1991 SE with a 5 speed. 152,000 Miles, aftermarket alarm and stereo are only mods...- Check Engine light is on- Noise (Sorta like Pully noise) coming from front of Valve Cover (Around the timing chain) Goes away when A/C is turned on!?- When Engine reaches 5,200 RPM's or so, it makes HORRID noise and seems kinda like the power is not reaching the wheels. (Does not seem like the clutch) -Valve cover leaks (Just a gasket, I think)

Other than that, the car seems to drive great. It pulls EFFORTLESSLY (except beyond 5,200 RPM) to 90 mph(fast as I wanted to go) with NO problems...

I know that this is vague, but I dont know how else to explain it... Any help would be great!!! Thanks,Richard

About the noise...

If it is what it sounds like, it is most likely a timing chain guide on the the timing chain. Many people take off the valve cover and just remove it (the guide, not the timing chain) since it is a general conception that it serves no point (other than make noise).

However it could be more serious and you may need a new chain. Few seem to have that problem though. Just try searching before you do anything drastic, I know they talked recently about this on this forum.

I removed mine and it doesn't make that aweful sound anymore. If it was like mine, it sounds like a metal rattle near the front of the motor. Kind of like a heavy chain being dragged on a wooden floor (as it has been described before)

Great advice:rolleyes , did you even look at his SN?

Your best bet would be to take it to a mechanic, that way you will know exactly all the problems the car has before you buy it.

Thanks Guys (and gals)! I am planning on taking it to a mechanic and letting them check it out and get the ECU codes. (I wish I could do it myself...) Do you think that the Stutter at 5200 RPM's could be due to the engine light on? ...
