I was removing the intake manifold and didn't realize that the knock sensor harness was caught. The harness ripped out of the sensor plug. Do I really need the sensor? NOT running any mods so there shouldnt be any detonation anyways. The only thing i am wondering is if its going to retard timing all the time if I dont have it plugged in? Any opinions or educated answers?

You're going to have to get a new sensor. It comes with the pigtail from autozone If I remember correctly.

The car will eventually stop cranking. You'll get a few good times out of driving it, but it will die and leave you stranded, and the whole time you know its the knock sensor.

Trust me, once you've completely damaged it, the car won't run. When the car does run - i'm sure urs is awesome - you'll sense no problems what so ever!

I dont see why not either. The cranking circuit has nothing to do with the knock sensor. I believe that when there is a knock in the motor the sensor creates a voltage signal then the ecu senses that then retards timing. If its disconnected it should run normally I'm thinking

It does run without the sensor. I ran my KA for like a year without a knock sensor. (Not proud of that) Never had any issues except occasional bog under WOT, cause it'll pull timing now and then.

Just get a new knock sensor when you can. It's there for a reason.

yes you can run it without a sensor....but why would you!.....there is a constant tuning arguement about tuners who dont use the sensor.....to me this is crazy thinking....dont know about most..but if ya know me...i fully build and balance every motor in our teams rides....that takes allot of money and time...a knock sensor will help..not stop..catasrophic failures...like a bad injector..or a failed fuel pump issue from cousing a full grenade of your block....$30. bucks for peace of mind...that's and invenstment i recomend to anyone man...buy a new one..have peace of mind.
