Can u fill me in with more details on this?

"MAJOR NOTE: if an earlier ’91-’97 cam is used in any ’98 up engine, then the rear oil plug in the cam will have to be punched in deeper past the oil feed hole that feeds the rear most #6 cam bearing in order to avoid spraying oil around in the valve cover area!!!"

Hello all,
I know this may seem like a dumb question, but what is the cam gear bolt size on the 2.4 hardbody p/u SOHC? I have used a 21mm and it wasn't it. that is as big as my set is. I don't want to buy tools that I don't need. Thanks in advance

Hey tloof! I know I'm reviving the dead here, but since no one has ever stated that they have installed the 93'-95' Altima exhaust cam as an intake I am here to say I did. your math was right, when I check valve timing it was visually the same as my s13 stock intake cam, while a s13 248 exhaust cam is aprox 5 degrees retarded visually.

I am going to be doing a write up at some point about the install, after I try some of the cam combos that djpants has tested and some that he hasn't.

ps.
would like your 2 cents on suggested combos like 93'-95' Altima 248/216 from 98'-99' Altima. after installing an oil hole on the 6th cam journal of course.

Lets see if some life can be brought to life here. I'm putting in 1997 Altima cams in my Xterra Ka24de. Would the valve clearance be the same specs as it shows in the manual? My apologies if it is a dumb question.

The valve clearance on the 1997 Altima was 0.012-0.015 in for the intake and 0.013-0.016 on the exhaust cam. The 1999 Frontier uses the exact same specifications, though it's exhaust cam has shorter lobes than the Altima tied not to valve clearance but exhaust valve duration. You probably will not need to adjust much if your truck was within spec before the cam swap.

Hi all, I'm new to Nicoclub. Came here looking for some information and found this very excellent but originally old thread. I'm having a d!ck of a time finding an intake camshaft for a KA24DE (casting #F45) that's in a 2004 Xterra (2.4L of course). Haven't had any luck trying to order one from Nissan (out of stock - dealer says can't get) and southeast salvage yards can't locate. Any ideas? Can anybody recommend any shops that might sell one?
Regards,

If the earlier post is correct, the frontier and Xterra 00-04 should have the same intake cam as the 00-01 Altima. That's another option to look for at the junkyard. I'd start there if I wanted a stock camshaft. Pick-n-pull has always been my first choice. Always plenty of Altima there.
