sorry chief, I've got more money in the mods for my Z32 with sport 500's etc than I have in cost plus mods of my Z31 and my Z31 is way faster in a straight line or around turnsBadQ45t wrote:If you want to go fast go find a Z32 90-96 Twin Turbo.
ummm, the DOHC version fo the VG has a large headstart out fo the box, about 60 hp, and short of a custom engine build the best z32 n/a I'm awaye fo makes around 210 hp, there is a guy with a Z31 n/a putting down 220 at the wheel, the dual cam has the advantage of higer compression and a much better intake, and more valves, otherwise not much better than the earlier sungle camand if you don't think a 2+2 can be fast you have a bit to learn, sure it's a bit heavier and therefore a bit slower, so you add a bit more powerBadQ45t wrote:But the DOHC engine has alot more potential stock or if you got it back into shape so that you get the stock performance with 300 hp the Z32 offers out of the factory than the 200 or 205 that the Z31 gave you out of the factory.
I was not ever a big fan of the Z32 as lots of people were and are, I have a Z31 and love it for the last 25 years...it was the last of the line, wasn't saying you couldn't make it faster, but at car shows and Z events I have seen some 600-700hp monsters, the most HP out of a Z31 I have seen is around 450hp.
I wasn't saying that it isn't possible to make a Z31 faster, but for this guy, if he's going to start over (cause we all know a 2+3 Z31 is never going to be fast) I'd start with the Z32..way easier to find one in reasonable shape too.
Switching to a 5-speed manual and a 3.9 R200 rear gear would give you a noticeable gain.Dime10C wrote:Hello there, I own a 1986 300ZX 2+2 Model Automatic, and am looking into a K&N Cold Air Intake. I was wondering if anyone hear has put this on their Z and had a noticeable HP gain. Thank you in advance.
