Hey all.. just picked up an 05 g35x with 70k for $13k. Awesome car! This is coming from a guy with a 620hp Evo :)

My questions are..

1. It appears most of the audio has been upgraded.. Pics below. I would like to switch to a double din which I assume would be trivial given the work that has already been done?

2. There is a rockford amp installed.. is it safe to assume the stock bose has been removed or bypassed?

3. I have a random off\on switch under the dash and an antenna on the windshield.. I assume these are not OEM?

4. Finally, there's a bunch of water in the spare trunk area.. but the carpet is dry.. I sealed up the rubber grommets.. anything else I should check for?

Thanks!

It looks like all the Bose and factory deck has been replaced. You should be able to go to a double din without any issues.

What does the switch do when pressed? The water...tough to tell from the pics. I'd follow the power wires from the aftermarket amp...

The antenna looks like it's for Satellite radio. Is there a source for it on the deck?

Thanks.. I got the water out and sealed around the rubber grommets with RTV.. will keep an eye on it.. I also dig into the stereo setup a little more.. and LULz were had. The factory sub is there but wires are cut to it.. the bose amp is hooked up but only running the pass rear speaker. Drivers rear speaker doesn't even work.. but both front spears are working as expected thought the rockford amp.. haha

Is the rear antenna an XM-style?

No, the lower switch is not factory.

That is a double din... you just have to remove the cubby section. Amazon special, 179.00.

reminds me of my first G, same color and model, congrats!

hopefully that water was spilled in the trunk and left there, and not coming from rain outside. you might want to get the new radio professionally installed if you are not already skilled in that area. I'm thinking some other corners might of been cut wiring wise...

with 70k on the car id be more focused on making sure a 60k service was/is done, specifically a transmission flush.

I may have a water answer for you....

I used to have a buick (go ahead, snicker) that had the identical water problem. It drove me nuts and I could never figure out where it was coming from.

Eventually, I figured it out.

At one point in time, I had pulled up the weather stripping to clean the crud out that had accumulated around the rim of the trunk compartment (they all do and it gets nasty dirty there). Inside the weather stripping was this caulkng like material. Naturally, when I pulled off the weather stripping, I broke the seal. For some reason I figured that the press fit would have been tight enough to keep the water out. It was not. LIke you, I had a dry carpet, and a spare wheel well FULL of water. Amazing.

Anyway, after trying this and trying that, I remembered the weather stripping thing. I pulled it off again, cleaned everything nice nice, then filled the weather stripping with black silicone. Pressed it on and wiped up the excess.

Never had the problem again.

Check this on your rig.

BTW, I had an 05 g35x (my wife has it now). It never had this water problem. (But I never removed the weather stripping either.

And never F with the weather stripping.
