I may have a water answer for you....
I used to have a buick (go ahead, snicker) that had the identical water problem. It drove me nuts and I could never figure out where it was coming from.
Eventually, I figured it out.
At one point in time, I had pulled up the weather stripping to clean the crud out that had accumulated around the rim of the trunk compartment (they all do and it gets nasty dirty there). Inside the weather stripping was this caulkng like material. Naturally, when I pulled off the weather stripping, I broke the seal. For some reason I figured that the press fit would have been tight enough to keep the water out. It was not. LIke you, I had a dry carpet, and a spare wheel well FULL of water. Amazing.
Anyway, after trying this and trying that, I remembered the weather stripping thing. I pulled it off again, cleaned everything nice nice, then filled the weather stripping with black silicone. Pressed it on and wiped up the excess.
Never had the problem again.
Check this on your rig.
BTW, I had an 05 g35x (my wife has it now). It never had this water problem. (But I never removed the weather stripping either.
And never F with the weather stripping.
