hi all - newbie here.. bought a 99 pathfinder SE. and unfortunately, it didnt come with an owners' manual so i started playing around with the shift procedure.. i was reading the card on the front visor.. i have the automatic.. so i put the car in Neutral then pushed the stick and pulled into 4L.. then i pushed the stick again to put it back to 2H and the thing grinded for about 2-3 seconds.. damn i dont know if i caused any problems to the transmission, please someone tell me otherwise.. :( car seems fine but i feel so guilty.. anyone know how to use this thing properly.. please help!!

another thing.. if the car is on 4L , should the selector lever be on N or D ?? this thing is confusing.. if someone could shed some light, i'd greatly appreaciate it. thanks :help

the shifting must be smooth and quick or you will get the gring but also the trans will spin in nuetral when the transfer is in nuetral (it picks up revolution from the engine since nothing is locked in place)when you want to go from 4H to 4L come to a stop place the trans in park then shift the lever. you can shift from 2 to 4H and back on the move up to I believe 25 or 30 mph.

I think you're also supposed to back up after you put it into 4wd, and when you put it back into 2wd. I'm not sure, but I know you're supposed to on Jeeps and Toyotas.

you back up to unlock the hubs when they have locking hubs..the R50 pathy does not have that style hub. These hubs are always in full lock.

Ok, I wasn't sure. I had a 1995 Nissan Hardbody 4x4 and I was supposed to do that, but it had manual hubs. I didn't know that it was different for the electronic hubs.
