Hello everyone, I have a problem that's been bugging me since last Saturday to be exact. My '93 J30 was running perfectly fine until I shut it off to go inside the house( I've had the car since Jan. 03). I came back out to move the car and now all I get is cranking but no start. I have fuel and I have spark but all the car does is crank but wont turn over. The timing belt was done as soon as I purchased the car in Jan, it had 152k mis. on it now it only has 157k. I had a AutoMate Remote start alarm installed in March but I never had a problem with it. If I hold the key in the start position and keep it there, it will crank almost to the point of turning on but then it backs off. I've tried to hold the pedal to the floor while cranking the car but no good I'm sure all I'm doing is fouling the plugs( a complete tune up was done in April, used NGK Platinum plugs)I did let the plugs dry out before reinstalling them. I went thru removing the crank angle senor and turning the shaft by hand to make sure I hear the clicking from the injectors and all of that but still, the car wont start. Today I'm going to run the diagnostic on the car to see what codes come up(couldnt do this until today, since it's my brother's computer and he wont allow me to touch it, not that I know what I'm looking for anyway). My question is, (oh by the way I've already tried to jump start the car with a battery charger. I did crank faster with the charger hooked up but still it didn't start, all of the corrosion was removed from around the terminals for the second time since I've had the car, even tried to switch batteries, nothing) the only thing that I havent tried other than putting the computer on the car is disconnecting the alarm, if the alarm was bad it shouldnt even crank at all, am I correct with this assumption? Sorry for the long post but I just cant figure out what went wrong from the time I shut the car off(approx. 15 mins., until I went to move the car and why this is the first time I've notice this. My wife said it happened to her once before but then the car started right up after she turned the car back.

Probably flooded the engine. A quirk of the J30 in quick on/off cycle. Put the pedal to the floor and start cranking. Should start no problem. The 97 J was modified with a gadget that prevented this quirk.

OK, put the diagnostic scanner on the car, code came back as the coolant temperature sensor. Changed the sensor(also had to change the plugs) and the car's fixed. This sensor causes alot of problems on different cars. On my Benz, the faulty sensor robbed me of all the power from the car, changed the sensor problem fixed. Thanks for the replys guys.

Never heard of that problem with an Infiniti before. All things are possible of course. We have had many new owners post to this site regarding exactly the symptoms you described.

Typically this condition occurs when the car has been started and run for less than a minute or so (depending upon ambient temperature) and then shut off as would happen when you move the car to a different parking spot. Happened just that way to me on a rainy cold day. Pedal to the metal, hold it there hard , crank a little more than you think you should et viola. A lot a smoke will more than likey be generated.

How much was the coolant temp sensor and did you avail yourself of the NICO discount at InfinitUSA.com? (They are a sponser)

The coolant temp sensor cost me $25. at my neighborhood auto store which my brother has an account. While in there I also changed the connector for the sensor, that ran me $12. I tried the hold the pedal to the floor and crank until it starts, all that did was tease me like it was going to start then it would die down and just crank. I also had to install Bosch Platinums for the time being(they didnt have the NGK Platinums and the ones that were in there were all fouled so) once my brother goes to work on Monday I'll have him pick up the NGK's for me(he works at a Nissan dealer). I'll tell you though, I'm glad he came over with his scanner or I would've been spending all type of money trying to figure out what the problem was. As for InfinitiUSA, didnt have the time. It's my wife's car and it was fixed it by now or she's ready to spend money and have it towed to a garage. Did the math and this is what I would've spent if I went her route: Tow.$50 for hook up then whatever the amount for mileage, $85 per hr, and you know they would've made sure that this was at least 3 hrs, retail price for the sensor was $50(my brother's price was $25). So I'm looking atleast $335.00. Ouch! for something that cost me $47, including plugs and a few hours and some Coor's lights :ylsuper
